Modern Family was such a hit when it was on the air, and it's honestly still one of the best comedies in television history. There's no denying that! It's still definitely one of my favorites to watch, even just having it on in the background while I'm working. Friends, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and other comedies rank so high for a reason, and that's the ensemble cast as one of those reasons. And Modern Family had the truly perfect recipe for it.

One of the best characters is Sofia Vergara's Gloria Prtichett. She brought a certain spice, flare, and diversity to the series that's truly great. And the actress proved just how funny she is, while later in 2024 her dramatic side came out in Netflix's Griselda. In a recent podcast interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the star talked about her roles including Gloria Pritchett. And of course, the subject of a revival came up. Here's what she had to say:

"I mean, I would do it in a second. Of course, I would do it. [She would do it] for the experience of doing it again, [but doesn't know if it would be] good or bad."

As Vergara mentions, it's difficult to know if it would truly be good or bad to do a revival. Modern Family ran for 11 seasons and came to an end in April 2020. It really hasn't been that long since the show wrapped up. And while of course I miss it as well as the Pritchett/Dunphy/Tucker shenanigans, I don't think a revival is needed. There was so much explored and the comedy ended with each of the kids starting their own adventures and the next chapter in their lives. And while I wouldn't say the final season was bad, you could tell it was time to wrap things up.

Now while I wouldn't want to necessarily see a revival - good things should just be left alone - I wouldn't mind a reunion movie or reunion episode. As mentioned, there's certain plot points that were left open-ended like Luke going to college, Alex moving to Switzerland, and Manny traveling the world with his dad. Plus, Lily is much more grown up now. So, there are some interesting things we could see and it would be nice to see where everybody is at and what they're currently up to. So this could be a good idea.

Jay actor Ed O'Neill and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons who played Lily have expressed being open to the idea of coming back for a revival/reboot. And while Sarah Hyland's Haley and Ariel Winter who is Alex haven't completely shut down coming back, they're also not eager to jump right back in. It would depend on a number of factors, as shared by Us Weekly.

Well, whether a reboot, revival, spin-off, reunion movie/episode does or doesn't happen, we can all be rest assured that the cast is still close and seem to be seeing each other when they can! Just recently back in March 2024, Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) and Julie Bowen (Claire) went to see Anderson-Emmons in a play. And that's just so sweet!

Plus earlier this year in February, the cast reunited at the SAG Awards and it was just so great to see. Those included Vergara, O'Neill, Bowen, Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet (Cam), and Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy) Check out the post shared by Vergara below:

So those are my thoughts on whether a Modern Family revival should happen. But what do you think? Do you agree or disagree?

All 11 seasons of Modern Family are streaming on Peacock and Hulu.
