Yellowjackets season 3 will skip 2024 (Release date news)
After the writers and actors strikes caused delays for a majority of movies and shows, most notably broadcast TV's fall lineup, there's other network and streaming projects that were impacted as well. One fan-favorite is Yellowjackets season 3. And unfortunatley, the waiting will continue for a while.
There's actually a ton of series' making a comeback in 2024, but third season of the thriller drama is not one of them. According to Deadline, Yellowjackets season 3 will premiere sometime in 2025. Now, that could be early 2025. But, still. We're going to have to wait at least another year, if not more, to see what happens next in the story.
Even though the show's writers room reopened back up in September 2023, as shared by the news outlet, it seems like production is going to need a good amount of time to get all the scripts ready, finish filming, and put the post-production touches it needs. Deadline shares that pre-production for the third season stopped just one day after the Writers Guild of America strike began. The strike started on May 2. That most likely means the team didn't even have any or many scripts written before the writers room had to be shut down.
This is definitely disappointing news for us fans, and it's going to be a very long wait. Especially after the shocking cliffhanger and finale that came our way on May 28, 2023. We need to know what happens next! As many of you know if you watched the last episode of season 2, Misty (Christina Ricci) accidentally killed Juliette Lewis' Natalie. This was a huge surprise because Natalie is one of the four core ladies, and we've had to say goodbye to a character who's been there from the very start.
At the 2024 Emmys, some of the show's stars were on the red carpet and teased what's to come in season 3. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Samantha Hanratty who plays teenage Misty said the following:
"I'm gonna put it out there that season 1 is chaotic and messy, season 2 is like still cold and dark and it was winter, and then this one was the meltdown. You're going to see the melting of like what these people are and really get to see like the broness of these girls."
During this awards season, Christina Ricci was nominated for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film at the Golden Globes 2024. She was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the Critics Choice Awards 2024.
Then at the 2024 Emmys, the show was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, as well as Melanie Lynskey for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Though the thriller drama didn't take home any wins, Yellowjackets is still a winner in our books!
New episodes of the series air on Showtime, then on Paramount+ the day after. Seasons 1 and 2 of Yellowjackets are currently streaming on Paramount+.
