We’re still almost three months away from the second season premiere of This Is Us, but creator Dan Fogelman is already teasing scenes.

There’s much to look forward to before the second season premiere for This Is Us fans. The Emmy nominations come out this week, then the Emmys themselves in September — go team go. Then, at some point, we’ll get trailers and fully produced teasers. Given the crew just started shooting season 2, we’re not holding our breath for the last two. Still, they are shooting which means… bring on the behind-the-scenes teases!

Sterling K. Brown, who plays Randall on the show, already tweeted out a photo with his on-screen parents, Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia, with the apt hashtag, #PearsonPride. And then, not to be outdone by his stars, Dan Fogelman also shared a look at set.

Fogelman’s sneak peek was a snap of his view from behind the camera and immediately leads any good fan to wild speculation.

Unfortunately, there’s not anything too revealing in the shot — which was no doubt intentional. Using the tried and true strategies of clothes and facial hair analysis — hospital gown on Rebecca, full beard and denim jacket on Jack — we appear to back on the Big Day: Jack’s birthday and the day of the Big Three’s births.

It’s an interesting choice, because learning more about that particular day doesn’t top anyone’s list of questions for the family in the second season. That said, there’s more to learn about the details of that day. This could very well be Rebecca seeing Randall for the first time. Neither Pearson parent looks particularly happy — they did just lose a child, after all — so this scene could also delve into the complexities of deciding to adopt in the midst of grief and loss.

Which could provide a nice parallel to the modern day storyline of a family considering adoption in the midst of grief and loss — Randall’s.
