This will come as an absolute shock to no one, but Sterling K. Brown is an amazing father, just like the character he plays on This Is Us. Sometimes, it’s hard to see where Randall Pearson ends and Sterling begins. Both Randall and Sterling are married fathers of two who are tireless and talented workers. And as if it was even in question, they are both as sweet as can be.

In an interview with Fatherly, Sterling K. Brown shared personal stories about his two young sons, his late father, and his experiences in the wilderness known as parenthood. As we have seen in the first season of Brown’s breakout drama This Is Us, parenting isn’t for the faint of heart and it’s a constant game of trial and error. But Brown seems to have cracked the code of being there and providing unconditional love for his children. While he admits that patience is his weakness when it comes to fatherhood, he says that he’s a “Good Time Charlie.” We couldn’t help but imagine the best fun dad there ever was: Jack Pearson

Elsewhere in the interview, Sterling K. Brown opens up about the touching story of how his oldest son got his name and how he changed his own name when he was young because it was too long. The Emmy winner couldn’t have been sweeter talking about the ways he makes sure his children know he loves them. He showers them in “I love yous” and kisses on the lips, the kind of affection most fathers aren’t accustomed to showing their sons. Yes, we’re all crying, thank you.

Further proving that Sterling K. Brown and Randall Pearson are basically the same person, Brown expressed the pride he felt while watching his child play and excel at soccer. Here come those pesky tears again courtesy of this quote from Fatherly:

"During a recent soccer game, Andrew ran somebody down who had a breakaway. I don’t even know if he stopped the goal or not, but the effort he expended on the defensive side of the ball was spectacular. I think I probably cried and had to wipe it away so I didn’t look like some crazy emotional dad at soccer practice with a bunch of five, six, and seven year olds."

It’s incredible to hear a successful actor talk about these personal stories. We’re so used to being fed celebrity interviews full of playful anecdotes from behind the scenes and spoiler-leaning questions meant to distract from the actual conversation. But Brown has taken the time to honor the message of This Is Us and get real about his real life. Just when we thought the Pearson family and their off-screen counterparts couldn’t get much more inspiring.
