It’s the best of both world as Mandy Moore’s 47 Meters Down and This Is Us Season 2 collide this fall.

More from This Is Us

What do a summer shark movie and the highly anticipated season premiere of primetime tearjerker have in common besides their leading lady? You would think not much else, right? Well, you’d be wrong. The surprise hit movie 47 Meters Down and the upcoming second season premiere of This Is Us have a connection deeper than Mandy Moore.

Before your guesses run rampant to a shark invading the Pearson home, let’s break it down. This Is Us, starring the endlessly talented Mandy Moore, returns for Season 2 on September 26. Meanwhile, 47 Meters Down, also starring the endlessly talented Mandy Moore, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray that same exact day. Oh, how worlds collide on one very special Tuesday.

Of course, the first season of This Is Us will see its home video release two weeks earlier on September 12. For Mandy Moore fans, September will be filled with must-buy DVD releases and catch-up marathons all leading up to the next set of 18 episodes prepared to give us a run for our tears. But should This Is Us fans check out 47 Meters Down?

The suspenseful survival horror film without a doubt marks a change of pace for viewers used to watching Mandy Moore as matriarch and moonlight singer Rebecca Pearson. Moore stars alongside Claire Holt as Lisa and Kate, sisters on vacation in Mexico. After a caged diving experience goes awry, the sisters are trapped — you guessed it — 47 meters down.

In spite of its $5 million budget, 47 Meters Down went on to perform well among a sea of superhero sequels, raking in nearly $52 million worldwide this June. Although it wasn’t topping any critics lists, the film was regarded as a summer romp in the vein of 2016’s shark movie The Shallows.

Most importantly, the film reintroduces Mandy Moore to the box office, where she has starred in a number of hits including (but not limited to) The Princess Diaries, A Walk To Remember, and Tangled. She’s back to take a bite of the big screen! (Too far?) If the waterworks of This Is Us aren’t quite enough for you, turn to 47 Meters Down for under-waterworks sure to deliver chills and thrills.
