What can you expect from the post-Super Bowl episode of This Is Us? For starters, pack your tissues because this is the big one about Jack’s death.

More from This Is Us

Whether we like it or not, whether we’re emotionally prepared or not, the answers that have remained questions for almost two seasons of This Is Us will be provided in full, fiery detail. The precursor to Jack’s death — the fire — started in Season 2, Episode 13 and will continue to its tragic conclusion in the next hour, to be aired following the arguably most emotional sporting event of the year: the Super Bowl.

But what can we expect from the Super Bowl episode of This Is Us? Will it operate like a normal episode of the series except with more fire and tears? Will it be a standalone episode or will the entire ensemble cast appear in the past and present? Will it be a bait and switch and not actually reveal the real cause of Jack’s death? (See, told you there were tons of questions yet to be answered.) We won’t know the concrete reality of what’s to come from the most anticipated episode of the Emmy-winning series, but we do know that tissues are a most. Chances are, you already knew that if you’re a This Is Us regular, though.

For those inquiring minds, here’s the super-descriptive synopsis of the aptly titled “Super Bowl Sunday” provided by NBC. You basically don’t even have to watch the episode after reading it. (I kid. Hey, let’s lighten the mood a little. It’s about to get real dark on Sunday night!)

"Randall hosts a Super Bowl party while Kevin and Kate reconnect with the past."

What? Really? That’s all we get?! Fine. It’s understandable that NBC is being stingy with the details about the post-Super Bowl episode. I mean, how do you boil down the hour everyone has been simultaneously waiting for and dreading into a one-paragraph description?

Here are the facts: Randall host a Super Bowl party in the present while the Pearsons contend with the worst tragedy of their lives on Super Bowl Sunday in the past. In the midst, Kevin and Kate get in touch with their pasts. If we were to bet, it seems as though the Big Three, armed with all of the emotional intelligence they have learned along the way, will finally come to terms with Jack’s death. It’s time, and there’s no turning back.
