Is Lauren Cohan leaving The Walking Dead?

First Carl and now Maggie? Is The Walking Dead’s goal to break our hearts (and get us to stop watching)?

Before we get ahead of ourselves, Lauren Cohan has not said she’s leaving, and neither has AMC, because she probably (hopefully) isn’t going anywhere. But Deadline has brought an interesting report to fan’s attention — Cohan is being heavily pursued to star in upcoming series pilots.

Why are networks after the actress so much this year? She’s incredibly talented and beautiful, yeah, but she’s not available…that we know of! Then again, after Carl’s shocking fate, we’re bracing ourselves for anything when season 8 of The Walking Dead returns.

According to the source, Lauren Cohan is one of the actresses leading the pack of most sought after stars with “close to half-dozen offers so far.”

More from AMC

The actress, who joined the AMC hit series in season 2, is a key player on The Walking Dead, recently becoming the leader of Hilltop. Her pregnancy hasn’t stopped her from planning with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the others how to defeat Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviors once and for all.  Even though her pregnancy is “high-risk” (and hilariously invisible), she’s otherwise very healthy. Then again, so was Carl, and Glenn, and everyone else who has previously been killed off.

If AMC wants to keep Cohan on the show, because it will tank without her — not only because we already lost Carl, but The Walking Dead needs as many female leads as it can get — they’ll have to give her a generous raise. But here’s another bit of the report that is making us nervous:

Cohan WAS offered more money to increase the length of her contract, but she didn’t accept, “the network did not follow-up with a new proposition and there have been no further talks…. She reportedly has been engaging, taking pilot meetings.”

Many viewers are already done with the show after recent events, and Scott Gimple’s “promotion,” Lauren Cohan leaving could be the last straw for many fans.

The Walking Dead season 8 returns February 25 on AMC.
