Playthings is one of the scariest episodes, but also one of the most humorous. It’s got some of the best lines of the second season.

When you look at Supernatural‘s creepiest episodes, you’ll also usually find that they have some of the funniest lines. The writers have a knack of creating humor when it shouldn’t be, giving us a break from the hiding-behind-the-pillow moments. “Playthings” is just one of those episodes.

There are some hilarious moments, especially with Drunk!Sam. Here are the six best lines from the whole episode.

Of course, the most troubling question is why do these people assume we’re gay?

More from Supernatural

Dean brings up this question as they book into the haunted hotel. It’s an understandable one. Why is it that people assume they’re gay instead of brothers on a road trip? Of course, these sorts of lines also opened the door to Wincest in the Supernatural fandom.

Sam’s retort to the line is amusing. He suggests that Dean’s personality is overcompensating for something…We’ve all wondered that.

Are those antique dolls? Because this one, this one here, he’s got a major doll collection back home. Dontcha? Huh?

Poor, Sammy. He has to deal with Dean making him out to be the one with the weird fetishes. If it wasn’t for the sake of the case, Sam would have likely said something to Dean, but Sam knows when embarrassing himself is needed for the greater good.

Old-school haunted houses, you know? Fog, and secret passageways … sissy British accents. Might even run into Fred and Daphne while we’re inside. Mmm, Daphne. Love her.

Dean runs through the feeling that he’s getting in the house and comments on the old-school feel. However, it’s the Scooby-Doo reference in this line, and not just because of the upcoming “Scoobynatural” episode. This is the moment Dean makes it very clear that he has a thing for Daphne. Remember when I recently said that there was a moment that Dean mentions he likes her, so it’s not surprising he calls dibs on her in the crossover?

Drunk!Sam is one of the best parts of the episode. When he gets drunk, he gets mean. He starts calling Dean names in a funny way. Yes, Dean is bossy at times. There’s only Supernatural where a 6ft+ guy gets called short though, right?

You have to watch out for me, all right? And if I ever… turn into something that I’m not… you have to kill me.

Despite the focus on a standalone case, there’s a mention of the overall arc. Sam is clearly worried about what he could become; what could happen if he gives into whatever is inside of him. As we learned about Sam and the world of the Yellow-Eyed Demon, so did the Winchesters. Everything about Sam was a mystery, but his personality shone through with some the lines like this.

Okay, so this wasn’t hilarious or funny in any way, but it was a good scene. Plus, Dean got to call his dad names.

Yeah, what are you gonna do, poke her with a stick? Dude! You’re not gonna poke her with a stick!

Once again, Sam knows his brother perfectly. With just a look, Sam knows what Dean is thinking and makes it extremely clear that it is not going to happen. The line has become even funnier considering a recent episode with a kid poking Castiel with a stick.
