We all know Rowena has Crowley’s witchy mom. While at C2E2, Mark Sheppard admitted that it would have been better if Rowena was Crowley’s ex-wife. Could that have worked on Supernatural?

Ruth Connell has certainly done an excellent job of creating one of those characters you just love to hate. Rowena MacLeod thinks of nobody but herself, although there was a hint of sadness when she learned Crowley was dead. Mark Sheppard and Connell had some excellent moments together, but Sheppard had a point when thinking back to the dynamic on Supernatural. Rowena could have been better as Crowley’s ex-wife.

This was, after all, a love-hate relationship. There would have been more ammo between them and more water under the bridge. While Rowena did eventually have something sort of kind to say about her son, there was never a reason to really care for this relationship. After all, Crowley never cared about the relationship. He was a demon and he didn’t care about anyone!

It looked like at one point he could have cared about Gavin, but really he just wanted to win. He had a plan and wanted it to play out. Rowena put a stop to that.

Supernatural storyline with the exes could have worked similarly to the witchy couple back in Season 7. You remember them; the Starks were played by James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter. The two witches cause havoc and destruction and then would get back together–only they were allowed to attempt to destroy each other.

This sort of dynamic would have worked for Supernatural if Rowena was Crowley’s ex. Rowena as a witch and Crowley as a demon could have created a partnership that was dangerous if they could ever work together–and at points, they could have done. It might have helped solve the problem of Crowley having very little to do for his last few seasons.

Check out everything Sheppard had to say about the idea and his final scene in this video from C2E2.
