Supernatural Season 13 theories: Why does Rowena want Sam?
The photos for Supernatural Season 13, Episode 19 hint that Rowena needs Sam for a spell, but why? Does it have something to do with Lucifer?
Rowena is back in Supernatural Season 13, Episode 19. It looks like we might finally figure out what Rowena did to herself when she cast that spell from the Black Grimoire. There are plenty of theories and it looked like she gave herself some magical battle armor, but now photos for the next episode makes it look like Rowena needs something from Sam for whatever she is doing.
Considering Rowena was looking for some sort of protection against Lucifer, is it possible that he is the reason why she needs something from Sam? There are a couple of ways Sam links to Lucifer.
He’s seen Lucifer’s true face

Sam and Rowena both shared their trouble of seeing Lucifer’s true face. It’s so terrifying that it’s giving Sam nightmares eight years after getting out of the cage. If he’s still so traumatized, it’s not surprising that Rowena has wanted to do something to protect herself.
To protect herself, she could need the blood of someone who has also seen Lucifer’s true face. Her first thought would definitely be Sam Winchester.

He was Lucifer’s vessel
The most likely link would be that Sam was and still technically is Lucifer’s true vessel. While Lucifer can now remain in Nick without the vessel disintegrating thanks to some magic work from Crowley, Sam is still the true vessel. Sam has also been Lucifer’s vessel at one point.
To fully protect herself from Lucifer or to bring him down from Heaven so she can kill him, she may need to put him in his true vessel. Alternatively, she may need the blood of the true vessel to give her the power boost to protect herself.
