Despite the pilot not having aired yet, Cloak & Dagger showrunner Joe Pokaski is hoping to see a crossover with Hulu’s Runaways sooner rather than later.

During a Q&A session at the MCM Comic Con London held after an early bird screening of Freeform’s upcoming Cloak & Dagger on May 27, showrunner Joe Pokaski (writer for NBC’s Heroes) revealed he is thinking long term for the series, according to Rich Johnston for Bleeding Cool. Johnston writes that “there will be no other superheroes in season 1, but [Pokaski] wants to be including Spider-Man in year seven.” He continues, writing Pokaski eyes “a Runaways crossover sooner than that, as they appeared together in their comics rather quickly.”

While planning a Spider-Man crossover on Cloak & Dagger might sound ambitious, Marvel is no stranger to ambitious TV crossover attempts, as shown by Netflix’s The Defenders. Pokaski, who, in addition to his work on Heroes, has written a few comics for Marvel himself, revealed at the London event “he has secret plans to connect all of Marvel together,” Johnston claims, “and has included three or four things in the show that he didn’t even tell Marvel about.”

Cloak & Dagger will follow two teenagers in New Orleans as they navigate through the discovery of newfound supernatural abilities. The two teens, Tandy/Dagger and Tyrone/Cloak, played by former Disney Channel darling Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph, unexpectedly acquire superpowers and must rely on each other as their worlds turn upside down.

More from Teen Dramas

Early reviews have been fair, with Entertainment Weekly describing the show as “a sensitive teen drama,” while IGN writing that the show approaches its tragic theme “in a raw and poignant way – presenting a tale that is sometimes heartbreaking.” Newsweek has given the show high praise, commenting that “whether you’re a Marvel fan or not, it’s undeniably a must-watch if you want something different.” As someone who hasn’t been intrigued by a superhero show since Smallville, I agree that there is something incredibly intriguing about the show’s premise. It might just be the combination of sci-fi and teen drama set against a post-Katrina New Orleans backdrop that’s piqued my interest.

The 10-episode first season kicks off with a two-hour premiere event on June 7. And if Johnston’s report is correct, we better keep our eyes peeled for Marvel Easter eggs throughout the season. I’m excited to see how Marvel adds to their universe while adjusting itself to better suit Freeform’s demographic. Hopefully, with Pokaski’s guidance, the show will become my summer guilty pleasure.
