June 23 is Supernatural Day in Austin, TX. This is a day to celebrate every year now and it’s about time! Here’s why it should have happened sooner.

Supernatural finally has a day officially dedicated to it. Not many shows get to say that, but then, not many shows are as awesome as ours. Supernatural Day will take place on June 23 every year in Austin, TX.

Really, it’s something that should have happened much sooner. Here are just five reasons why it’s about time we got a day dedicated to the Winchester brothers and everything about the fantasy series.

More from Supernatural

1. It’s the longest-running CW series

No other show has gone on the CW as long as Supernatural. It’s also going to take some time to beat the series! Let’s just first consider the fact that the Winchesters still have work to do. The show will go into its 14th season in October! However, even if it was finishing soon (which we sincerely hope it doesn’t) then it’s going to take some time for another show to get close.

Arrow is the current CW series with the most number of seasons behind Supernatural. The Arrowverse parent show is going into its seventh season. And it’s not fairing as well as some of its spin-off. We just have to look at The Flash to see how popular a spin-off is over its parent show. That’s going into its fifth season in October. Shows will have to at least double their number to meet the Winchesters right now.

2. It’s the only show from a pre-CW network still going

Did you know that the first season of the Winchester brothers’ journey was on The WB? It was only in the second season that the CW formed and brought a number of WB and UPN shows to its network. Some of those including Gossip Girl, Charmed and Smallville. All three of those shows have since ended.

Supernatural is the only show from a previous network still going on The CW right now. It’s helped to carry the network and shown that just because people don’t watch live doesn’t mean they’re not interested!

This doesn’t include Supergirl, of course, which started out on CBS. The CW’s parent network is still going and the show didn’t start before The CW was founded.

3. It’s the second longest-running fantasy series

Doctor Who certainly takes the cake for the longest running fantasy show. However, Supernatural has become the second longest-running show. It took over Smallville‘s position at the end of its 10th season. This was the point that it also became the CW’s longest running show.

This title by itself is more than enough reason to give the show a day to itself. You want two more? Okay, I’ve got them for you.

4. It’s brought people together and changed lives

If you haven’t read “Family Don’t End With Blood” yet, you need to right now. This is a book of articles compiled together. Fans and cast members on the show have come together to share what the series has meant for them. It starts with a short piece from Jensen Ackles and ends with a beautifully written article from Jared Padalecki.

The series has transformed lives. Fans have shared how they were close to suicide but the actors did something that stopped them in their tracks–because Padalecki, Ackles, Misha Collins, and so many others truly care about people in the world.

5. The actors make a worldly difference

And it’s not just about the show and the fans. The actors have changed lives through charitable campaigns. Collins’ GISH starts up next month and it’s going to set the world on fire with goodwill and generosity.

There are always T-shirt campaigns for a variety of charities and causes. Mark Pellegrino and Felicia Day recently did campaigns for anti-bullying, while Mark Sheppard is doing his last as Crowley for children with diabetes. The actors don’t live in their own bubbles, but try to make a difference they way they believe is right.

And we can’t forget the way they can be on social media. Collins, Day, Pellegrino, and others will routinely stand up for their own views and beliefs on Twitter. This can be divisive and is something some actors will refrain from because they don’t want to alienate fans, but many on the series want to spread the word and not hide behind their computers.
