Now that Jesse knows about Tulip and Cassidy, it’s time to move on from the love triangle story line on Preacher.

Tulip and Cassidy shagged in the first season, before her and Jesse were back together. It hung over the group throughout the second season, but Preacher didn’t waste time in Jesse learning the news this season.

Cassidy’s anger toward Jesse made the vampire lash out. So, his revenge for Jesse letting Tulip die was telling him the two hooked up. Now that the news is out there, there is even more tension between Jesse and Cassidy.

This is going to cause some problems for three of them as they try to figure out how to escape Gran’Ma and get Jesse’s missing piece of soul back from Herr Starr. The three of them are best when they work together, but we already see how it’s causing friction.

While Tulip, Cassidy, T.C. and Jody fought the Boyds for Jesse, Cassidy and Tulip spent more time with each other. They laughed and joked about him getting shot, and after a light moment between the two Tulip told Cassidy she loved him. But not in the ’til-the-end-of-the-world kind of love. It seemed it was more in the friendship vein between two people who have been ridiculousness together.

Cassidy’s undead heart fluttered and his infatuation with Tulip only grew. This needs to end.

Tulip is likely not going to pick Cassidy over Jesse. Her and Jesse have been through so much together, have been side-by-side since childhood. They will be together until the end of the world.

Throwing Cassidy into the mix just seems to add an element that isn’t necessary for the group dynamic. However, I can see the writers pushing Tulip toward Cassidy because of her poor self-esteem at times. When Tulip messed Jesse’s chance to get his soul back, she repeated the same thing her father said in Purgatory about not being able to do anything right.

She could wind up viewing herself as not good enough for Jesse and moving into the arms of Cassidy, a drug-addicted vampire. While witty, Cassidy represents every vice out there, which makes him the exact kind of thing Tulip would dive into.

For the good of the season, the love triangle needs to end because there is a Gran’Ma that needs killing and a God that needs to be found.
