SDCC: Steven Universe: The Movie and trailer announced
By Drew Koenig
Steven Universe stopped by SDCC and made a very exciting announcement about an upcoming movie at Cartoon Network.
It’s not unusual for fans to get large amounts of Steven Universe at one time. Steven bombs, where Cartoon Network releases an episode every night of the week, is an all too familiar occurrence.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone then that Steven Universe showrunner Rebecca Sugar and the cast revealed at the SDCC panel today that something very exciting is coming our way. While not much is known about Steven Universe: The Movie at this point, the announcement was accompanied by a short teaser for fans to dig their teeth into and dissect to their heart’s content.
In the teaser, a crystal heart is spinning ominously, the faces of the core Crystal Gems reflected within it. Also present in the heart is a mysterious new gem that looks to be the villain of the movie.

The most likely option is that this is White Diamond, the only Diamond that we haven’t met so far and remains the largest area unexplored by the series. With what looks to be a kind of tentative truce in action after the events of the previous episodes. My assumptions about this upcoming movie will depend on how the next batch of Steven Universe episodes goes.
On the other hand, Steven Universe: The Movie might be the next thing we see from them and this could simply be the fallout from “Reunited. In any case, the prospect of a feature-length amount of Steven Universe is a very promising prospect.
Steven Universe: The Movie does not have a release date yet. Are you excited for this? Let us know in the comments below.
