If these five things happen in the upcoming fifth and final season of Gotham, TV’s best superhero show will go out on top.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for all five seasons of Gotham.

While most comic book related TV shows made appearances at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con International, Gotham was notably absent. The show’s lack of presence is likely due to the fact that it only started production on its fifth and final season July 9. But though no trailers have been released recently, several details about the series’ upcoming last episodes have emerged.

As set up by the program’s fourth season finale, some of the new season will be dedicated to adapting the “No Man’s Land” and “Year Zero” crossover storylines from the Batman comics. Judging by a post on Gotham Executive Producer Danny Cannon’s Instagram, the Court of Owls will be returning. And Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle will assume their iconic mantels as Batman and Catwoman. But while the details make the show’s fifth year sound exciting, its abbreviated run means it’ll be difficult for it to conclude gracefully.

With rumors abound that Gotham sixth season will be made up of 10 episodes, it’ll be hard to wrap up the ruined city storyline and give each member of the cast a meaningful exit. Although the series is technically an origin story for Batman, its most interesting aspects haven’t been about the young billionaire’s slow embrace of vigilantism. Its greatest strength has been its exploration of the Batman mythos’ supporting characters and the often subversive ways in which they’ve departed from canon.

In an ideal world, the series will end its run by concluding its ongoing storylines while also paying off long teased connections to comic book lore. In particular, these five things should happen in Gotham before TV’s best superhero show goes off the air.
