Yes, Outlaw King is the sequel to Braveheart
By Ryan Mekkes
In case anyone was wondering, Chris Pine’s Outlaw King is the sequel to Braveheart.
Chris Pine’s Netflix trailer for his soon-to-be-released movie Outlaw King set the internet world ablaze with fans of the genre freaking out over another epic to add to the collection of war movies such as 300, Troy, and Braveheart. But the best part about this movie is that it is actually the historical sequel to Braveheart.
This was already an exciting, must-see movie, but the fact that we’re finally going to get to see an on-screen account of the aftermath of the events surrounding William Wallace’s conquest is surely something to get even more fired up about.
According to information gathered from Historic UK, William Wallace 1272-1305 (depicted in Braveheart), was the first to have success fighting against the tyrannical control of England. But as we know, he was unable to complete the mission, as his one victory against the English was followed by a resounding defeat. Wallace was betrayed in the year 1305.

Robert The Bruce 1274- 1329 (to be depicted by Chris Pine in Outlaw King), began his journey of defiance against England after the execution of William Wallace. And in an effort to avoid spoilers, we will stop there.
The only fact that we must keep in mind is that Braveheart was not a completely historically accurate representation of the events that actually occurred. It had a lot of truth to it, but there were certain parts of the movie that were fabricated for creative effect, such as the part where Isabella and Wallace had a romantic relationship, for example.
So we may see some story-bending in Outlaw King as well, even though it’s a different cast and crew. Nevertheless, it still looks to be an extremely exciting movie.
