Supernatural Season 14 promises all the intensity we’ve come to depend on from the ever-thrilling storyline. The remaining characters will have unspeakable challenges to overcome, but what if they had a little help?

We’ve seen it all on Supernatural. From behind the scenes to the corners of a character’s mind, the show has taken us on innumerable twists and turns, even to Hell and back. Just when you think you know what’s coming, you don’t.

Although there are some pretty stunning scenarios like angel babies born as teenagers, there are also some very concrete blocks that Supernatural is known for. Monsters, hunting, the Impala, and especially resurrection. We have seen some of our very favorites disappear in a violent spark or slashing, only to turn up again halfway through the next season.

Of course sometimes when someone is dead, they’re just flat out dead. And then there’s that one character you sort of forgot existed until you pick up the newest Supernatural  special release for surprise deleted scenes and wonder, “what did happen to that guy?”

With all of that in mind, are we really expecting to be bound to the obvious, visible cast lineup we think we have to start Season 14?

We have a short list of some intriguing possibilities that would sure take some of the pressure off of Sam, Castiel, and the rest of the universe as they trudge through the difficulties of the upcoming Supernatural season:

Amara/God

Let’s start with the obvious. Even though they smoked out to who knows where for some jump rope or whatever, these power siblings each have a soft spot for the Winchesters and Earth, itself. They’re probably watching from wherever they are but it’s not exactly Chuck’s style to jump in.

That doesn’t mean he won’t though. He has done a few things to help the plan along (or disturb it) when there seemed to be a very dire situation, or even as a reward after the management of ungodly trials.

When God left, Dean expressed his concern about what would happen if they were in need again someday and he wasn’t around. God told Dean the world would manage because they had the Winchesters. But that’s not exactly the case now, is it? Maybe this falls into the “dire” category and he will come out of hiding to do a party trick or two.

As for Amara, well I don’t think there’s any question that she really appreciated Dean’s personal attention and investment in her, no matter how twisted that road eventually got. She doesn’t seem to have the same aversion to interfering as God does. Maybe she will cascade her smoky self across the land and free her little buddy, Dean, just like he did for her.

Crowley

We’ve seen mercy resurrections before, maybe going out with a good deed earned Crowley a ticket back, maybe even a promotion with Lucifer down for the count. If God doesn’t show up, at least he could send a little gift basket in the form of the Winchesters’ personal hellhound.

The former King of Hell always did have a soft spot for Dean and he sure doesn’t want Michael running his domain. God would surely know all of this and sending him in would probably be very interesting.

It could also have something to do with the little trip Rowena and Charlie are on. Mommy was extremely adamant about getting him back and didn’t like the outcome there. Maybe she thought of a new plan. That is sort of her thing, after all.

Note: Mark Sheppard has made it clear he’s not coming back but you never know. Something could change.

As with Crowley, the possibility of time served with good behavior is always a viable option. Maybe Gabriel will find his way out of the Empty like Castiel did and go back to get the ending he had in mind. He certainly wasn’t going to be stopped when it came to getting revenge on Loki who himself was a God.

Why should a little archangel scare him? That passion he has for getting even and doing justice isn’t easily quenched.

He spent all his time on Earth going around imposing trickster punishments and deaths on douchebags in every corner of the planet. I think Michael would certainly qualify as a candidate, especially after killing Gabriel last time they met.

Yes, the angel in the flesh. There has been plenty of talk about Danneel Ackles returning to Supernatural. This would be a lovely entrance. She is known for her good deeds, as she sees them.

She has been a source for angels who need shots of grace (do we know any of those?) But she has also got that taste for leadership and power, as we saw in Heaven.

There is also the fact that she did not appreciate Lucifer’s deception when they were sitting pretty in Heaven for a quick minute.

Having convinced the remaining angels to follow him and having nothing to show for her word wasn’t very pleasing. Now that Lucifer’s gone, she may be looking for another way to reboot Heaven for herself.

She’s going to have to get Michael taken care of first for sure. This would be a good twist but we would have to see what side she chooses.

Assbutt & company

The most powerful archangel vs. the most powerful archangel? Why not? I mean, Dean gave Apocalypse Michael permission to come in and sit for a spell, does that mean all Michaels are allowed? What would happen if they were both in there?

Crowley was in Castiel at the same time as Lucifer, so why not two Michaels in one Dean? That could be an amazing inner war. Can you imagine the character switches Jensen Ackles would have to pull off in a scene like that?

It’s true, Michael is in the cage with Adam, who would also pose a very suiting rescuer after all the accelerated years in there with Michael. Maybe after spending countless years as adversaries, young Adam could have served as an ideal apprentice (he is a Winchester, don’t forget). Maybe Daddy Winchester has been busy finding a way to rescue his youngest.

They might make a fabulous team and with Lucifer gone, Michael wouldn’t necessarily have a grudge to exact on Earth anymore. For that matter, either of the Winchesters would make a lovely vessel for the archangel, as well. Imagine Sam and Mary’s faces when these guys show up at the bunker. What a reunion, right?

Surely whoever freed him would be owed a great debt? While it would be pretty crazy to go through the whole thing with the 66 seals again (especially since Lilith is no longer an offering as the first demon to be the last seal), how could this even happen?

It was the four horseman rings that opened the ground and locked them in. Are they somewhere to be found? Does Billie have one? And if she is any indicator, the other horsemen must be around somewhere. It seems they are replaced like the prophets — when one is gone, another rises up. Not to mention that they aren’t necessarily dead anyway. Original Death would be a great addition to this mix, for sure.

How quickly we forget? Jesse Turner is a species blend akin to the likes of Jack. Having a demon parent gave him unimaginable power. Sure, it’s probably a regular demon (though we could discover otherwise), and Jack’s dad is maybe way more powerful. But we know the crafty little cambion already had amazing control of himself at a very young age.

It is true, his power is fueled by the presence of Lucifer but hey, do you think Jack’s presence would do as a substitute? It would be very fancy to see how that could turn out.

Could it be the answer to Jack’s lack of power? Castiel believes in Jack’s ability to be good, maybe his thoughts about Jesse could have changed (even if he did turn him into an action figure back in the day).

Jesse would be a lot older and wiser at this point, and if his powers flared up he would understand by now that it was because something was going down. They don’t know where he is, but he could probably find them just fine.

dark. Next. Should Jo return in S14?
