NCIS Season 16 preview: Where is Vance and who is in the lab?
The NCIS Season 15 finale left us with Vance’s fate in the air, as he was kidnapped by Jack’s torturer. NCIS Season 16 picks up four weeks later, but what’s going on?
Leon Vance’s fate is in the hands of a sadistic torturer, someone who wanted to make Jack question whether she remembered his voice right. The NCIS Season 15 finale left us with the shocking discovery that Vance was on the plane and his life was on the line. We have less than two weeks for the NCIS Season 16 premiere, but where is Vance and who is that in the lab?
Most of the focus is certainly going to be on finding Vance. The NCIS Season 16 premiere sees Gibbs as acting director and it’s not a position that he wants, especially not the way he’s got it. Vance isn’t just his boss, but also his friend.

In the promo released last week, Gibbs promises Vance’s daughter that he’ll get Vance back, but can he really make that promise? The team has no idea where Vance is. Sure, Torres has been tracking Vance’s trail, but so far he’s come up with nothing.

Meanwhile, the lab is getting a chance of running hands. NCIS Season 15 saw Abby’s goodbye. It is set up to allow Pauley Perrette to return if she wants (which is more than I can say for Duane Henry) but for now Abby is gone and following through with Reeves’ dream. Kasie is taking over, as Diona Reasonover is promoted to series regular for Season 16.
There are fears that Vance isn’t going to make it out of the NCIS Season 16 premiere alive. When it was last year, we just knew that Gibbs and McGee would eventually be saved. Vance, while a series regular, doesn’t have the main role to play that Gibbs and McGee does. Plus, his death would set up a shock wave for the whole season to play with. Will NCIS does the thing Bones did with Sweets?
