E4K: Push kindness to Supernatural levels with Random Acts

facebooktwitterreddit

E4K is a call to action, a display of endurance. These annual not-so-random acts come in all shapes and sizes but add up to something of Supernatural proportions.

A hundred little pennies make a dollar and 26.2 little miles make a marathon. This is just the distance of the act of endurance that will be committed by the Supernatural cast and other members of Random Acts in the Amica Seattle Marathon. But it isn’t stopping there. E4K is coming up and we know where they will be, but what are your plans from November 22-25?

This year, the group will raise funds and awareness in the name of (no more) child hunger. They’re calling it the Bad Idea Tour. They are training, recruiting, sharing, and asking you to join in the fun. This will be additional to all the other amazing deeds that will be funded throughout the next year with Random Acts.

Our beloved role models are not going it alone, by any means. And there’s still plenty of time for you to join in this effort. “But there is no way I’m getting to Seattle OR running a marathon.” Yeah, we know. But guess what? There are a lot of other things that fit this bill. And you just might love this creativity. So what is E4K and how can you play along?

Random Acts

Random Acts (of kindness) isn’t a phrase we’re unfamiliar with. In this case, Misha Collins has developed this official organization that works to change the world, one kind act at a time. Not just coming from the official offices of the officers but from you.

Very suitably, as she is an amazing example of endurance and kindness every day, Rachel Miner is the Executive Director of this fine institution of inspiration. And that’s not all! You will recognize board members such as Daneel Ackles and Genevive Padalecki, and get to know some new people, too. This is just a taste, as there are dozens of others from the SPN Family and beyond who work on all kinds of details and expeditions.

E4K call to action

E4K: Endure for Kindness (also 4 days long so good on the wordplay again) is one of the annual events staged by Random Acts. The SPN Family is vast and this beautiful organization defies reality with some of the projects they have completed.

While E4K is only a few days long and all about endurance, these givers of joy and change are busy every day of the year. You may be one of them; I know I try. No, I don’t spend every single day doing stuff like this, but I do try to do something every day that is kind.

And I know as a mother of six that everything you do and say has an impact on others. This can be negative or positive and the choice is yours. Nobody’s perfect, but with the heart in the right place, miracles can happen. And that’s what it’s all about.

This is exactly why I engaged all of my children in GISH this year (my first time)! Now there’s no turning back for any of us and I immediately began to itch for more opportunities to be GISHy like Misha.

So you’ve probably heard of GISH, but what about AMOK? Yes, they do love to play on vocabulary. So who doesn’t love to run amok, right? In this case, it’s for good reason. Usually a week-long event, this year it was a full month and there was no lack of participation. Just do a quick search for #AMOKRA on Twitter, YouTube or Instagram, and you’ll see what I mean.

I know, we talked about how neither you nor I will be running any marathon (sorry guys, you inspire me, but there’s just no way). Also, I will not be near Seattle, and that is my official excuse. Either way, there are loads of cool and excessively creative ways to help this year’s cause. You can help promote the Bad Idea Tour campaign. Or (and this is so cool), you can make your own page and promote your act of endurance. What shall you endure, you ask? Now for the really fun part!

Do a thing

Danneel and Jensen Ackles did a big deal event at SoulCycle. Do you know that place was packed? Oh yes, they were sweating to Supernatural favorites and chatting and taking family photos.

While many of the participants are already part of SPN Family, the usual suspects got the chance to make some new friends from Out Youth, the welcoming group that shared the proceeds with Random Acts. Nerds and Beyond had some reps on the scene and they detailed the event beautifully.

This is a huge example of getting training in while adding to the fundraising efforts ahead of time. But I am not an intensely amazing TV person (there’s still time) and yeah, like three people might be showing up to my event. (Note: I have included my Mom and myself in those official calculations).

Fortunately, these intensely amazing people are able to draw a crowd. What makes them so special is that they use that platform for good. They spend a huge amount of their time on fundraising campaigns, events, concerts, and raising awareness in just this way. They even double up at the Supernatural conventions to do additional amazing things while hanging with fans!

So now it’s our turn, right? We know I’m not hosting a fabulous fundraising extravaganza. But I may just get my kids to watch Elf with me 16 times in four days while we create crafty donation boxes to drop around town. Or, if they (or I) have a slower mood happening, we can use that family time to make thank-you notes for all the volunteer firefighters in our county.

Yes, you can endure and share your experiences. Ask a few friends and family to follow along with you and pledge to donate a small amount to the campaign when you make it through your chosen task. And get creative! You don’t have to think inside the box here (please stay out of boxes). Build up your page to attach to the main campaign, and you’re off and running, changing the world!

The idea generator

Let’s look at the idea of helping out with some treats for animals waiting to be adopted. Cats like to party, but sometimes life feels really hard. Many beautiful critters are waiting for their new homes and humans so even the tiniest something could make their day better.

If you’re feeling Supernatural, you could fill tons of teensy pillows with goofer dust (or probably catnip since real goofer dust is poisonous) and hand them over to your local animal shelter. Those kitties will be over the moon, trust me. Or you could bake some nice wing-themed biscuits for the doggos.

Do you have kids who go to school? Find out what you can do for each teacher to make their job/life easier. Go take lunch to an older neighbor and sit with them for some stories. Still stuck? Don’t feel bad, my brain isn’t always in GISH mode, either. In fact, those last two weren’t even my ideas, they came from the Random Acts website!

Yeah, the awesomeness is seemingly endless. Go on over to the site, because therein lies the idea generator which yes, is awesome. There’s a trove of things you definitely did not think of. Well actually, you might have, because they are happy to accept suggestions to add into the display for others! Did you do that?

Plus, once you see what’s there, guess what wakes up all of a sudden? Your GISHy brain. I don’t know about you but after looking at the ideas there, I was like “*gasp* I think I just thought of eleventeen things!” There is for sure something that will catch your fancy and help you come up with the perfect act of kindness to put into overdrive for E4K. Get a bunch of buddies together and knit a ton of sock monkeys or go Supernatural and auction off some fan art!

So there you have it, folks. While we may not be able to jump into the marathon or hold a charity event, we can be involved and make a huge difference! The SPN Family is a team, after all, and a team is made of individuals. I am one of those and I have big ideas on how to make my minutes count! Let’s all get together and make this thing the bestest best that ever bested!

dark. Next. Is it time for Chuck to step in?
