CBS hands out full-season orders to two freshman shows and a reboot
CBS is in the business of handing out full-season orders this week. Two more new shows and a reboot have landed extra episodes, taking their totals to 22. Congrats to God Friended Me, The Neighborhood, and Magnum P.I.
Two freshman shows and a reboot have landed full-season orders over at CBS. Sunday night’s feel-good series God Friended Me, the multi-camera comedy The Neighborhood, and reboot Magnum P.I. have all been given the back nine, taking their totals to 22 each.
This is excellent news and comes off the back of a number of other shows landing full-season orders. ABC’s Single Parents was the first freshman comedy of 2018 to land all 22 episodes and now The Neighborhood is following suit.
Giving it the full-season order was a no-brainer and certainly no surprise to those following the ratings. As CBS said in a press release, the comedy has boosted the viewership by 14% from Kevin Can Wait last season. It averages more than eight million viewers every week.

God Friended Me is Sunday’s number one scripted show, with more than 10 million viewers on average. It’s also boosted the timeslot by 8% from last season, making it a clear winner.
The full-season order will be excellent news for Brandon Michael Hall, who had his ABC comedy The Mayor canceled after just a handful of episodes last season. He made the right choice moving over to CBS. This is also good news for Greg Berlanti yet again, who has had a stellar few years in the industry.
As for reboots, Magnum P.I. hit the ground running and continues to be successful. In many cases, we question whether reboots are necessary but this one has certainly proved it is with a more diverse cast. More than nine million viewers watch it on average.
The amazing news is that the timeslot has been improved by 50% from last season! CBS put comedies Me, Myself & I and Superior Donuts in this timeslot last year. Is it a suggestion there’s more call for dramas right now?
The news follows FBI already landing a full-season order after immediately impressing. This isn’t that surprising considering it takes the timeslot after NCIS. So far, only Murphy Brown and Happy Together are waiting to hear about their fates from CBS.
