While many are looking ahead at tomorrow’s episode, let’s take a quick minute to look back again. Here are the best lines from Supernatural Season 14, Episode 5.

Supernatural Season 14, Episode 5 was a strong episode. We got some bonding between Sam and Mary, seeing that they’ve had the chance to form some sort of relationship that Sam has craved for. At the same time, we were delivered a monster-of-the-week episode with a connection to the overall story.

Throughout the episode, certain lines stood out the most for me. They had meaning and pushed the story along. Here are my five favorite lines from “Nightmare Logic.”

Sam. Watching you these last few weeks, you know what I’ve been saying to myself? ‘This is what he was born to do.’

Mary has certainly come a long way this season. I’ve already looked at that yesterday, but right now I want to focus on this line. Sam and Mary haven’t had the relationship that Sam has always wanted. When Mary returned, she’d called Dean first and ask him for help. Sam admitted that he was jealous of that in a way, wishing that she’d call him.

Now we have this beautiful moment. Keeping Bobby and Sam apart was important at this point, but Mary didn’t use it as a chance just to talk about Bobby. She praised her boy for becoming the hunter he is, despite her never wanting him to get into hunting.

Can I give you a little advice? Let it go. The past is There’s nothing you can do about it now, so it’s just baggage. Let it go. You’ll feel a lot lighter.

Dean turns a little Elsa in this moment, but it’s an important line. He is always one that can offer advice but never follow it. That doesn’t matter because in this moment, he offers Sasha all the advice she needs to try to move forward with her life.

We also get some honesty from him. After this, Sasha asks if he’s let it all go. He hasn’t but he’s trying. One day at a time, right?

It didn’t hit me at first, but then I remembered — I’ve seen that rig before, long time ago, when I was hooked up to it.

Then we get this gem of a line from Dean. It’s been a long time since Dean was attached to the rig that the djinn set up. It’s not a surprise it took him a while to figure out what was going on.

Part of me wishes that this could have been Sam who figured it out. Dean wouldn’t have remembered what he was attached to and it was Sam who found Maggie. However, if it was Sam who figured it out, we wouldn’t have had the scene between Dean and the djinn.

I always assumed that war’d kill me, too, but it didn’t. I guess lately, I’ve — I’ve been looking for other options.

Finally, Supernatural Season 14, Episode 5 gives us the necessary development for Apocalypse World Bobby. It’s something that has been desperately needed.

What I don’t understand is how this Bobby had a son. Andrew Dabb once made a point that everything up to the apocalypse ran in the same way but without the Winchesters. How did the Winchesters not being born lead to Bobby having a son?

Oh well, it worked for the story, right? It gave us some development for Bobby, who is very much like the Winchesters. Well, at least Dean. He knows that hunting is the thing that will kill him.

We’ll — We’ll — We’ll track down Dark Kaia and her spear. We’ll — We’ll find something.

Sam takes the last line. He looks for any way to kill Michael because he knows that is what his brother needs right now. More importantly, he knows that Dark!Kaia is the likely person to help with the Michael situation.

He doesn’t have the answers, but he looks for solutions. This is a changed Sam, who last season was suffering from depression after too many losses. It’s good to see the man who can often look for solutions in the middle of darkness.
