Supernatural recap: Is there any hope for Jack?
Supernatural is back with Season 14, Episode 7. With Jack’s illness out, Rowena steps in to help. Meanwhile, Nick continues his search for the person who killed his family.
After a week off, Supernatural Season 14, Episode 7 delivered a powerful, emotional episode. As Rowena turned up to help save Jack, Nick went on a mission to save his family. Both storylines delivered excellent moments and lines that we’ll not forget for a long time.
It all started with a quick catch up of the events and very quickly got into the main plot points. Like other times there have been two clear storylines, I’ll split these two in half to make it easy to follow them.

We pick up right where the last episode left us. Jack’s illness is out and the race is on to save him. When Jack starts foaming at the mouth, the Winchesters and Castiel rush him to the hospital. Of course, that leads to an interesting conversation about his full name, date of birth, and father details.
Jack collapses before they can even bring up his mother, forcing the doctors to rush him through for tests. All the tests come back negative, but his whole body is shutting down and he doesn’t have long to live.
Sam calls Rowena with the pretense of Dean being the one who needs help. I love that she immediately rushes to them with the stolen/borrowed Book of the Damned. When she learns that it’s Jack who’s actually ill and he’s the son of Lucifer, she doesn’t want to help. Jack gets it but he manages to get Rowena to warm to him.
When she performs her spell, she comes back with bad news. The only thing keeping the human-archangel balance in check was his grace. With that grace gone, his cells are fighting each other. There’s little hope.
Of course, they’re not all going to give up, but Jack wants to live the human life. He doesn’t feel like he has time left, so he wants to experience everything. Dean takes him on his journey of a lifetime, which involves burgers and driving Baby.
Jack has one thing he wants to do. He wants to go fishing and drink beer. It’s all because it was something Dean mentioned about him and his own dad. Jack knows it was one of Dean’s favorite memories with John, so Jack wants to do it too.
While seeing the sights may be amazing, Jack wants the quiet, beautiful moments. He wants to spend time with the people who he loves. And he admits at that moment that he’s had a good life.
Castiel gets a possible remedy from a shaman
While Jack and Dean go on their road trip, Sam, Castiel, and Rowena try to find anything that could help. Sam talks to Ketch about a possible shaman. While it sounds shady, especially with a British Men of Letters connection, it’s something and Castiel decides it’s worth checking out.
Castiel checks Sergi out alone and walks straight into a circle of holy fire. The shaman knows that this is Castiel but does let up and invite Castiel in. Sergei has a sort of answer. It’s not permanent but can help to prolonge Jack’s life for now.
It turns out Sergei is the guy who gave Gabriel the cloaking spell after his fake death in Supernatural Season 5 in return for some archangel grace. That with a spell will help Jack for now but they both need to be used together.
What does Sergei want in return? He doesn’t deal in money but doesn’t have anything right now. He leaves Castiel with the message that the Winchesters owe him a favor. Yeah, that sounds ominous.
When they cast the spell, Jack seems to get his powers back. He stands up and says he feels much better, but as a typical Supernatural storyline goes, it’s not that easy. Jack collapses and is much worse. When Castiel calls Sergei, Sergei says it was an experiment.
All the Winchesters can do now is stay by Jack’s side and watch over him as he dies. I don’t think the Winchesters will pay up.
Quick note: It’s worth mentioning just briefly that throughout the episode, Dean was suffering some weird vision. Either it looks like Michael is trying to force his way back to the surface or he’s done something to be able to see what’s going on through Dean’s eyes. It definitely looks like this is what the djinn saw.
Nick finds some answers
Throughout the whole episode, Nick is clearly struggling with life after Lucifer. We open to him in a church. It looks like he’s in some sort of support group or talking to someone who can help, only to realize that he’s killed and crucified the priest.
He meets with a crime reporter who wrote up his family’s story. She doesn’t know much and ran into plenty of dead ends. At one point, she suggested it was Nick. However, eventually, they get a possibility.

Nick goes to pay this possibility a visit. It’s a cop, who quickly tries to shut Nick out. Yep, he’s guilty.
This is Supernatural, so it shouldn’t be surprised to find out that the cop was possessed to do the killing. And the (presumably) demon was called Abraxas. Nick knows the name because Lucifer knew the name, so now Nick needs to figure out the next stepping stone. Before he does that, he picks up a hammer and kills the former cop.
After that, Nick gets down on his knees. He wants Lucifer back; needs Lucifer to stop him feeling anything. While he does that, something forms as a skeleton and eyes glow red. It looks like Lucifer is back.
