Should Supernatural have kept the John Winchester spoilers under wraps?

Andrew Dabb revealed that John Winchester will return in Supernatural Episode 300. Would this have been better kept under wraps for the episode?

Let’s be honest; sometimes it’s almost impossible to avoid Supernatural spoilers. There are constant debates over what counts as a spoiler and the showrunners, especially Andrew Dabb, never really help matters by releasing their own spoilers throughout the year. That’s what has happened this week with the news that John Winchester will be in the 300th episode of the series.

As much as it’s awesome to hear that he’ll be back, in a way, I’m disappointed. Yes, I know I shared the news yesterday, but that didn’t mean I really wanted to know about John returning. Quite honestly, this would have been amazing (for me and the fandom as a whole) to see play out on the night.

More from Supernatural

I remember the night that Apocalypse Charlie was revealed. Who wasn’t excited? Who didn’t look at the screen and thing “noooooo!”

What about when Apocalypse Kevin showed up? Or when Apocalypse Bobby appeared in Season 12? How about Gabriel last season? Seeing those characters in episodes after so long, especially coming back from the dead, was special.

I think back to when Jensen Ackles and Andrew Dabb both spoiled Dean becoming Michael. There was only one person that Ackles could have played who wasn’t Dean Winchester considering the storyline. The tease ended up meaning that the finale just wasn’t as amazing as it could have been.

And now, John Winchester coming back to Supernatural after so long isn’t going to be as exciting as it could have been. Sure, we don’t know the storyline and there are other characters supposedly returning, but John was the big one. The only way the show could top this is if Adam Milligan was brought back from the dead.

So, part of my wishes that this news of the 300th episode wasn’t revealed. Imagine what the excitement could have been like seeing it all play out.
