Robert Singer mentioned in the Supernatural Inside that the cliffhanger was one nobody would expect. However, ever since Jensen Ackles mentioned he was becoming another character, many of us guessed it would be Michael. Did he spoil the Supernatural finale surprise?

When Robert Singer mentioned that the Supernatural finale cliffhanger would be one nobody would guess in the Supernatural Inside video, I wondered if we’d been guessing wrong the whole time. Then it did turn out to be Michael, something many of us had guessed since Jensen Ackles had mentioned he’d become a new character on the show. It was slightly anti-climactic and made me wonder whether Ackles had accidentally spoiled the surprise.

Had Ackles not said anything, I’d never have started wondering if Dean was going to eventually say “yes” to Michael. That thought would likely never have crossed my mind until the very end of the Supernatural finale. Dean letting Michael in made complete sense by the end of the finale. He’d already lost Sam once, and Dean would be damned if he was going to let it happen again within the space of a few weeks. There was no other choice.

More from Supernatural

If nothing had previously been said, this would have been a complete surprise. It would have been something that Singer had thought. Only a small number of fans would have guessed and that would only have been because it was something they’d hoped to have seen way back in the day.

Ackles wasn’t the only one to spoil things. Showrunner Andrew Dabb also mentioned this “new” character, sharing that it was someone from the past. The only one that made sense considering the current storyline was Michael.

While some of us don’t mind spoilers, there are certain elements that are best left secret. This was one of those cases for me. The knowledge that Ackles was going to get to play another character going into Supernatural Season 14 made the cliffhanger obvious and anti-climactic. However, here’s hoping we get more Michael!Dean than we did Deanmon.
