Supernatural Season 14 returned with an episode full of memories, laughter, and action. Here are the five best lines from “Nihilism.”

Steve Yockey and Amanda Tapping certainly delivered an excellent return from the winter break. Supernatural Season 14, Episode 10 was the perfect mixture of action, throwbacks, painful memories, and surprising laughter. And it ended with an excellent (although Avengers: Infinity War-reminding) twist.

There were certainly plenty of lines throughout. Each character had a moment, whether it was stating the obvious, making hilariously terrible impressions, or quick one-liners.

I’ll warn you now that there are some minor spoilers in this. Here are the best five lines from “Nihilism.”

We have shifts now, because you mess up so, so many things.

Sam decides to get some help from the reapers, remembering that there is one always looking over him and his brother. He doesn’t get Jessica, though. Instead, he gets to meet Violet.

The change is possibly because the production couldn’t get the same actress as before, so the writers needed to change a few things. That meant adding a reason for a new reaper looking over them, and what better than joking about the reapers working shifts around the Winchesters?

Yes, uh, put a chair against the door. That’ll help.

Michael!Dean had some excellent lines and it certainly came from the timing and delivery. One of the best lines was something that we all thought. As the supermonsters made their way to the bunker, Sam, Cass, and Jack had to decide what to do.

Michael brought up the thing they’d done before — blocking the door. It is one of those things. People attacking are blocked out by a chair at the door, which never actually works. We were all thinking Michael’s words, right?

Dean thrives on trauma. I mean, he’s had to his whole life, right? It keeps him alert, keeps him ready, but if I wanted to distract Dean, I-I I’d give him something he’s never had before.

I love that Sam figured out where he needed to go. As Castiel looked at all of Dean’s traumatic memories, Sammy showed just how much he knew about his brother. He knew that Dean would pull out of a world from his memories.

Giving Dean contentment was dangerous for Dean. He’d allow himself to be trapped.

You only tolerate the angel because you think you owe him, because he ‘gripped you tight and raised you from Perdition.’ Or whatever.

When Dean was pulled out of the makebelieve world, Michael appeared. It was time for the fight, but before that, we got this perfect line. The impression was terrible, and that’s exactly what made the line. In fact, it made the moment.

It was with the terrible impression that we got some comedic humor. Michael wasn’t trying to be Castiel. He was making fun and you could get it with his phrasing and look.

I’m the Cage.

Finally, Dean decides it’s time to get rid of Michael. He can’t kick Michael out of his head, so why not trap him there instead. This is his head, so he gets to make the rules right? This is a side of angel possession we haven’t seen, where someone can physically trap the possessing being in a corner.

But it’s the ending. “I’m the Cage” speaks volumes. It’s the connection to the past but also a sign of strength from Dean. It’s almost as good as “I’m Batman.”
