The images for Supernatural Season 14, Episode 14 give us a look at the potential monster of the week. Is there more behind the name Noah Ophis?

In the Supernatural Season 14, Episode 14 images, there’s a man we’ve never seen before. Philippe Bowgen will play a character called Noah Ophis. Usually, a name wouldn’t mean too much, but there’s a chance that this connects to the title.

The episode is titled “Ouroboros,” which has a connection to both Ancient Egyptian and Greek mythology. Many will recognize the image the name is connected to: the snake eating its own tail to survive. It just so happens that the word “ophis” is Greek for serpent, and a serpent is another name given for a snake.

Not enough to suggest that this Noah Ophis is the monster of the week? How about the fact that “ophisaurus” is the name given to snakes? The Supernatural writers don’t just randomly choose names a lot of the time. There are often connections to the storyline, especially when it comes to mythology.

There is also a connection to snakes in the Bible, both Hebrew and the New Testament. It was a snake in the Garden of Eden, encouraging Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. They represent evil power and chaos. Yet, they also represent fertility and healing, which certainly links to that idea of from destruction comes life.

Something that is important to touch on is that in the Bible, snakes are also associated with divination and fortune telling. Could it be possible that Team Free Will 2.0 will head to Noah Ophis believing him to be some sort of fortune teller and find out that he’s evil? Maybe they head to him thinking he can help heal Jack, only to find out that he’s going to suck the magic that’s keeping Jack alive.

We’ll get to find out what the writers have in mind when the show returns. But it’s certainly fun to speculate.
