Acorn TV has announced that it will soon start production for Agatha Raisin Season 3. Ashley Jensen is returning as the sassy sleuth who is reinventing her life in the Cotswolds. Fans of James Lacey will be thrilled to know that he will be back full-time.

One month after Acorn TV streamed the final Agatha Raisin Season 2 episode, it has announced, via official press release, there will be a third season. Like last season, the episodes will be 90 minutes long, but this time around, there will be four episodes instead of three.

All four episodes are adapted from the original M.C. Beaton mysteries. They include: “Agatha Raisin & the Haunted House,” “Agatha Raisin & the Deadly Dance,” “Agatha Raisin & the Love from Hell,” and “Agatha Raisin & the Pig That Turned.”

Who will be returning to Agatha Raisin Season 3?

Agatha’s advertising pal Roy Silver (Mathew Horne) will be back, as will Gemma Simpson (Katy Wix), Agatha’s housekeeper and pal. Detective Bill Wong (Matt McCooey) and Inspector Wilkes (Jason Barnett) will surely be preventing Agatha from getting involved in anything dangerous, as they bungle the cases that Agatha ultimately solves. Agatha’s Cotswold friends, Sarah Bloxby (Lucy Liemann) and Mrs. Boggle (Marcia Warren) round off some of the familiar and charming characters in the village of Carsley, in the exclusive Cotswolds.

Fans who felt there was not enough James Lacey (Jamie Glover) in the second season will be thrilled to know the attractive, soft-spoken, former military man will be a regular character this season. In fact, the press release indicates that Agatha and James are “reconciled.” Does this mean the two will be back together or even engaged again? Fans will have to wait.

Sir Charles Fraith, portrayed by Jason Merrells will also be returning. This is a character that adds a lot of dazzle and British aristocracy to Agatha’s new life.

Agatha Raisin Season 3 details

According to Acorn TV, the Season 3 episodes will begin filming soon. They will start in mid-March, and wrap in mid-July. As of now, there is no information on when they intend on streaming the new season, but if production works as it did last year, mystery fans could see at least one episode stream before 2019 is over.

As a character, Agatha is growing as a person. She is now going to start her own detective agency, which should rattle the local police a bit. Ashley Jensen is clearly excited to portray the bobbed detective for another series, which is what the Brits call a season.

"“I am beyond excited to be returning to my high heels with another series of Agatha Raisin with Acorn TV. I can’t wait to get started on her next fun and frolicsome journey.”"

Speaking of the British, Agatha Raisin Season 2 has yet to air in Great Britain. Sky TV, the original channel that created the first season, and canceled the series, will ironically sign on to air the show sometime in the summer of 2019. Agatha Raisin demonstrates how much international audiences have now influenced the success of television shows around the world. What wasn’t deemed too successful in Britain was a smashing success in the United States.

It should be noted that Agatha Raisin Season 3 is the first renewal for the streaming service that is nicknamed “Netflix for Anglophiles.” Acorn TV is currently streaming the first two seasons of Agatha Raisin, as well as other original programming that features female sleuths such as Queens of Mystery.
