Supernatural Season 14, Episode 17 delivered a night of games, but it didn’t go the way the Winchesters had hoped. Here are my five favorite lines from the episode.

Supernatural Season 14, Episode 17 may have been game night in the bunker but it wasn’t all fun. In fact, the Winchesters soon had to help a friend, save one of their own, and deal with a certain character trying to bring back Lucifer.

By the end of the episode, we got to see the end of Nick’s storyline. However, it also seemed to be the end of another. Here’s a look at my five favorite lines from “Game Night,” and why they stood out so much.

We’re family. It’s our job.

This wasn’t the only time Mary mentioned family to Jack. She made it clear on at least two occasions that she thought of Jack as family. It continued the bond that grew between them in the Apocalypse World, as well as the bond that had grown over the last few months since being back.

Family isn’t all about blood. Bobby taught the Winchesters that. It’s clear that he wasn’t the only one who believed that, as Mary Winchester also has the same opinion and there’s no way it was her sons who rubbed off on her – she was barely around them before the Apocalypse World to understand family don’t end with blood.

I just need you to know I’m grateful for every day I get to spend with you and Sam.

You could tell that this episode wasn’t going to end well for Mary. Part of this scene felt like Dean’s goodbye speeches episodes earlier. It felt like Mary had an idea that her time was almost up.

Supernatural certainly tried to redeem Mary in this episode. I felt like they’d managed it, but then I always understood why Mary acted the way she did. In fact, she didn’t need redeeming for me. And her actions earlier in the season had shown her as a mother. But this scene was sweet and I loved this line, as she made a point of how much being around her sons meant to her.

He saves one angel and watches millions of people die screaming, every day. What does that say about Him?

There are plenty of humans who have this thought. Why would God leave people suffering? It’s a question people with or without faith question now and then. It’s not surprising that angels would start to question things.

Castiel once thought it. Looking back at Supernatural Season 5, he’d started to question faith. While he’s had the chance to find out God is actually out there and does care, other angels haven’t. And it’s not surprising that other angels are starting to question whether God really cares. Even Apocalypse World Michael questioned this.

You — you always, always put — You always put me first. Your whole life.

Sammy was sure that he was dying. In all honesty, he was dying in this moment. He wanted to make sure his brother knew how much he appreciated everything.

When Supernatural ends, I could see it being with the death of at least one Winchester brother. I would like to see the two show their gratitude for everything each of them has done for one another over the years.

If Sam and Dean saw what you did, they would be as worried as I am.

Mary gets my final favorite line. This episode was focused on her and it’s not surprising she takes up three of my five favorite lines. It’s towards Jack, pointing out something that we all knew. Sam and Dean would be worried about Jack if they’d seen him react as he did to stop Nick. We were all worried.

We got to see Mary treat Jack as a son or even grandson. She wanted the best for him and wanted to help him, but it wasn’t possible. In the end, Jack accidentally removed her from existence and the Winchesters had a right to be worried.
