During the Supernatural Season 14 finale, there seemed to be a hint at what to expect in the final season. Was there a hint that we should expect the show’s mythology lies to be exposed?

There was a huge twist in the Supernatural Season 14 finale. We’ll go into that twist in this post, so there are spoilers. Proceed with caution from this point.

Within the twist was a message: writers lie. And while that focused on the specifics of the finale, it also seemed to be a hint for the final season.

When Sam and Dean pointed out that God said only the special gun could kill Jack, Castiel made one thing clear: writers lie. It was a message that seemed to hold more weight. Sure, it was about God but what if there was another message. What if it was about the Supernatural writers?

Over the years, we’ve had all sorts of mythology told to us. Yet, now and then, there are plot holes. There are forgotten storylines and questions. There are certainly times that we’ve questioned something happening and questioned a character’s motives.

This season has included a number of moments, most recently with whether Duma could be trusted and whether Mary was really in heaven and with John. There have been so many other questions over the years. So many times we’ve wondered whether the writers have followed the show’s continuity or just decided to ignore something.

Well, what if the writers did follow continuity by making it clear that they’d previously lied. It wouldn’t be the first time. Uriel told Castiel that only angels could kill other angels but we’ve seen the Winchesters use angel blades and kill angels. Writers do lie.

This statement certainly has opened up a can of worms for Supernatural Season 15. How much of the show’s past mythology can we rely on? What’s the show been lying about? I guess time will tell.
