On this day in Supernatural history: Jared Padalecki’s House of Wax debuted

House of Wax with Jared Padalecki came out just before we got to see the actor in Supernatural. Here’s a look back at the movie, which was released on this day in Supernatural history.

Today in Supernatural history, we got a chance to see Jared Padalecki before he became Sam Winchester. Starring in the horror reboot of House of Wax, he took on the role of Wade. Here’s a look back at the movie, which was released in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2005.

Can you think back to what you were doing in May 2005? By this point, we hadn’t even got the confirmation that Supernatural was definitely going to happen. The pilot had been filmed and it was in the WB’s hands. Yes, this was when the WB was still around. However, Padalecki was busy with other projects.

House of Wax was the reboot of the 1993 movie titled Mystery of the Wax Museum and the 1953 movie House of Wax. Padalecki is Wade, boyfriend to lead character Carly (Elisha Cuthbert). Chad Michael Murray, Paris Hilton, Robert Ri’chard, and Jon Abrahams also starred in the movie.

It, unfortunately, wasn’t a financial or critical success. There were also financial problems afterward, with the production being sued for the fire used in the show. The $30,000 budget was made back through the U.S. gross, but only just.

On Rotten Tomatoes, it’s got a 25% critics score and 42% audience score. However, as a Supernatural fan, I think you’ll enjoy it. Padalecki gets a large role and this was his chance to step out of the Gilmore Girls role of Dean and step into something darker.
