Eyes are on who will return in Supernatural’s final season. Showrunner Andrew Dabb talked about this and the topic of free will at SDCC 2019.

Continuing with the SDCC 2019 roundtable interviews, we’re onto Andrew Dabb. One of the co-showrunners of Supernatural Season 15, he knows a little more of what can be teased and shared about the final season, which means more information about returning characters.

It was Dabb who confirmed that we’d be seeing some returning faces in the final season. Rowena was the first name mentioned, and I don’t think she’s a surprise to many. Originally a foe to the Winchester brothers, she’s gradually become a friend. In the last two seasons, she’s proved herself as part of the SPN Family.

But what about other returning faces? It was this interview where Dabb confirmed that both Eileen and Adam would return for Supernatural Season 15. This is big news, and I’m sure that many fans will be happy to hear about Adam. It is time the Winchesters got their half-brother back from Lucifer’s Cage, but will he be friend or foe?

However, Dabb hinted that there are more confirmed returns for the final season. We know Jared Padalecki would like to see his wife, Genevieve, return, but she’s not yet been confirmed. There have also been talks about Mark Sheppard returning as Crowley, but that’s still in the open. So, who could the other returning faces be?

While also talking about returning characters, Dabb discussed the topic of free will. In fact, it was the second question he was asked. For the last 14 seasons, we’ve thought the brothers have had free will. That’s what they fought for in Season 5 and they’ve continued to fight for since. Now they’ve found out that it was all written and planned anyway.

"“I think [free will] is a question that Sam and Dean really struggle with. God is out there…Is he around? Has he gone off to [another] world? They don’t know.”"

Andrew Dabb, who has been with the show since Season 4 but showrunner since Season 12, shared that this is a subject that the Winchester brothers will struggle with throughout the season. While this current situation isn’t going to play out throughout all 20 episodes, the topic of free will should keep coming up. How do they know that they really do have free will now?
