While it’s been fun to meet a new Bobby Singer in Supernatural, nothing can beat our own version. Here’s why we need him back for the final season.

I’ve been marking Supernatural cast birthdays with posts to show why characters need to return or why we miss them so much. Jim Beaver’s birthday is today, and there’s no doubt that we need to see him back for Supernatural Season 15, but I wouldn’t say as the Apocalypse World Bobby.

As much as I loved getting to meet a different version of Bobby Singer, nobody is going to beat the one we were introduced to at the end of Season 1. Our own Bobby has fought by the Winchesters’ side, with many of the same views as them as well as a big heart for family. He’s the one that coined the phrase “family don’t end with blood,” and it’s so true.

While he died in Season 7, we’ve seen the character return for various reasons. He started off as a ghost and started to turn into a vengeful spirit. Then we saw Sam rescue him from Hell and he has helped from Heaven. It’s not like our Bobby can’t come back.

But do we need him? I certainly think we do!

Apocalypse World Bobby isn’t the same. He’s not had the same experiences and he didn’t get to meet the Winchesters. The brothers arguably helped Bobby become the man we knew. Apocalypse World Bobby is a great hunter, but he seems the world in black and white. He wants revenge rather than to keep the world safe because his reasons for fighting against monsters, archangels, and everything else has been for entirely different reasons.

I miss the softness to our own Bobby Singer. He thought before he acted. He looked up the ways to kill monsters but also had a heart for those possessed by demons and those who were just trying to live normal lives. He understood that not all monsters were, well, monsters. Humans could be worse.

Our own Bobby would try to save as many innocent people as possible. He’d attempt to keep victims alive. This was a man who was a good hunter, a kind-hearted man, and a caring father figure to the Winchesters. These traits are missing in Apocalypse World Bobby and we need to see them back for Supernatural Season 15.

Also, our own Bobby was willing to sacrifice himself for the Winchesters on more than one occasion. He could fight through demon possession and refused to die until he got the right message to the brothers. I just couldn’t see the Apocalypse World Bobby do something like that.

And when it came to it, our own Bobby could knock some sense into the Winchester brothers. There are likely going to be times when the brothers need a kick up the backside in the final season. Not only do they have the biggest bad of all to face, but they will have a lot of doubts and questions about the world. Who better than our Bobby up in Heaven to help knock the sense back into them?
