How could Eileen return to Supernatural for the final season?
Eileen Leahy is going to return to Supernatural for the final season. Considering the way her character’s story ended in Season 12, how is that possible?
The dead doesn’t stay dead in Supernatural. That’s something we learned from the very beginning of the series, so should we really be surprised that the show’s EPs are talking about bringing dead characters back for the final season?
During SDCC 2019, Andrew Dabb confirmed that Eileen Leahy was one of the characters confirmed to return for the final season. He didn’t say when or the number of episodes, but it’s certainly led to some questions. The biggest surrounds how Eileen could return.

Eileen was sadly killed off at the end of Season 12. Ketch borrowed one of Crowley’s hellhounds and sent that hound after the hunter/legacy. It was a sad end to a character that had so much potential and was an excellent addition for diversity and representation within the show. Eileen never let her hearing loss prevent her from being a great hunter.
How could she return? Well, it’s not like she’d be the first character to come back from the dead. I think it’s safe to say that the character is definitely dead, but the question would be where her soul is. When she was attacked by the hellhound, did that mean her soul went, unknowingly, to Hell?

With God releasing the souls from Hell, it’s highly possible that she’s one of those that managed to escape. This would allow her to be a spirit, aiding the Winchesters where possible. After all, she shouldn’t be angry towards the Winchesters for her death but towards Ketch and the British Men of Letters. Let’s just hope if this is the case, she doesn’t become a vengeful spirit.
Another option is that she managed to get to Heaven. The Winchesters could turn to friends in Heaven to help deal with the Godly threat. This would allow them to see a few familiar faces with a realistic storyline to bring an end to the entire series.
A third option is the use of the alternate worlds. We know that different parallel dimensions were created, and we’ve seen a couple of them over the years on Supernatural. It’s possible that we could get a version of Eileen from one of those worlds.
After all, won’t the other worlds want to help take care of God? He’s the one that has created all of these worlds. He’s the one that has created drafts and then abandoned them when they didn’t go the way he wanted. They’ll want to get him to pay for everything he’s done if the Winchesters manage to get the word out, right?
