Supernatural brought us an episode of familiar faces but not all familiar characters. However, there was one return in Season 15, Episode 6 that stood out.

It should go without saying but this post includes spoilers from Supernatural Season 15, Episode 6.

Supernatural Season 15, Episode 6 delivered an episode of familiar faces, but not all familiar characters. However, there was one big return we knew was happening but not how or when. That happened in “Golden Time,” and it brought some emotional moments.

More from Supernatural

With Jodelle Ferland, Keegan Connor Tracy, and Jennifer Spence, we got a few familiar faces in different roles, but it was Shoshannah Stern’s return that had us excited the most. Eileen was back, but how considering she died at the end of Season 12? It was all very quickly explained and she became the focus for the case of the week.

Meanwhile, Castiel took on his own case, investigating the death of a boy in a smalltown lake. It certainly wasn’t an opioid overdose. Here’s a look at the events of the episode.

Eileen Leahy is back

We knew that Eileen was returning. That was something shared during the summer. What we didn’t know was how it would work.

Well, Eileen comes back as a ghost. She’d been in Hell (the Hellhound dragged her there, and I immediately told my husband I called it) but escaped when all the spirits were released. Before the town barrier went up, Eileen ran as fast as she could, so she wasn’t there when every other spirit was sent back to Hell.

Unlike Kevin, she doesn’t want to go crazy on Earth but she definitely doesn’t want to go back to Hell. When the Winchesters break the news that she can’t go to Heaven, Dean makes the suggestion that the brothers trap her in her own crystal. While Sam doesn’t like it, Eileen does. It’s better than her other two options.

It’s a trip to Rowena’s place for the spell ingredients, where they come across a witch who broke into the place and was later killed. They also come across Rowena’s journals and spell materials, including a spell that would make a spirit whole again. It’s perfect to bring Eileen back.

If only Sam could get the spell back to the bunker. Two witches (Tracy and Ferland) turn up, getting rid of Eileen’s spirit and taking the spell ingredients and Sam for themselves. They want to bring the dead witch back and the spell can only be used the once. Death will close this loophole.

Sam makes a connection

Sam manages to make a connection to one of the witches, who runs through some of the stuff the dead witch at Rowena’s did to her. Apparently, turning her crush into a water balloon and popping him wasn’t mean. The sister got mean after that.

The witch, Emily, doesn’t want her sister to be brought back from the dead. However, their mother is adamant that it will happen.

As Sam and Emily start to leave, Dean turns up with the mother held at gunpoint. It’s two on two until the ghost of the sister shows up. Fortunately, Eileen turns up to balance everything.

Dean manages to shoot Emily, while Sam uses a hex bag that he picked up from Rowena’s stash to take care of the mom. Dean is then able to burn the body of the witch, getting rid of the spirit. Now just to help Eileen!

So, do they help Eileen become human again? Of course, she does! We have to have some episodes in the Supernatural final seasons, right? Whether this will be permanent and a wholly good thing is another question. Let’s hope there are no loopholes or consequences with this one!

Castiel takes on a case of his own

Meanwhile, Castiel looks into the case of a boy who drowned in a lake. But he didn’t just drown. His whole body was drained. The local police believe an opioid overdose, but that’s not something Castiel believes.

The mother of a missing kid joins Castiel on the hunt. The missing kid turns up alive, sharing that he’d seen the monster dragging the dead kid to the lake.

That monster turns out to be a djinn. Oh, and it’s the sheriff! Castiel uses his angel blade to kill the sheriff but does go a little overkill (pun definitely intended). The fact the djinn chose to be a sheriff brought up the ill-feelings towards God (especially after finding out that God is still in the game). Castiel is fed up with people in authority using their power against others.

Castiel then manages to heal the kid’s sprained ankle. It takes a lot out of him, though. One thing that Castiel has realized is that he needs to get back into the game. It’s time to rejoin the Winchesters.

Dealing with God

The Winchesters don’t know that Castiel is back in the game, but the two are ready to face God. Well, Sam is. He knows that there will be a way to take him down. However, he needs Dean by his side.

Dean looks uncertain but this is Supernatural. He’ll come around!
