SEAL Team is on the move. While it’s not moving nights, it is moving to the later timeslot on Wednesdays. What could this mean for the show’s future?

The CBS fall 2020 schedule is out and SEAL Team is there. However, instead of the 9/8c timeslot on a Wednesday, it’s moving to an hour later. Could this be bad for the future of the show?

It is certainly an initial cause for concern. The 10/9c timeslot on a Wednesday has been problematic for some time. The shows are up against Chicago PD on NBC, a show that always wins the timeslot. Networks have tried to go up against it. ABC has had Whiskey Cavalier and Stumptown, while CBS has tried with SWAT during the 2019-2020 season. Sadly, the ratings have always struggled.

More from CBS

SEAL Team had a time when it moved to that timeslot in the past. During the second season, the show return from its winter hiatus into the later timeslot, running off the back of Survivor and The Amazing Race. It ended up being very much like the fall plan CBS has now. The live ratings slipped considerably and, as fans, we feared the show would be canceled.

The benefit is people watch on CBS.com or on CBS All Access the following day. There are ways to catch up and CBS does count them, but it’s still a network that heavily relies on its advertising revenue.

Moving the show to the later timeslot in the fall could be a problem for SEAL Team‘s future. The show is already one of the bubble shows, sitting in the middle of CBS shows on average. This could push it further down and lead to cancellation. As fans, we need to make sure that we tune into the episodes live to help support it.

There is a small saving grace. CBS is being extremely optimistic about its fall 2020 schedule. It’s the only network so far to plan for a traditional fall lineup. So far, FOX and The CW have opted for summer shows and acquisitions and will plan for the fall shows in January, assuming filming won’t be able to restart until late summer.

If this pays off, it could be great for SEAL Team, especially if NBC decides to play things safe. Without other top shows back, it could mean more tune in for Bravo Team’s latest adventures.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed because this is a show that deserves to remain on air for the subjects its willing to touch on.
