A break down of the live TV ratings for Monday, Oct. 19

It was a night of new episodes or new seasons on broadcast networks on Monday, Oct. 19. It’s time to breakdown the live TV ratings for the night.

Only one network had a rerun. The second episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway? on The CW was a rerun, but there was a new episode of the series in the half-hour block before it and a new episode of Penn & Teller: Fool Us in the hour block afterward.

We’ll start with The CW, which did see dips in the audience and demo for Whose Line Is It Anyway? and Penn & Teller: Fool Us. Both shows are staples on the network and perform well in reruns. There’s no need to worry about the comedy series, and Penn & Teller has already been renewed.

FOX had a great night in the live TV ratings

FOX had new episodes of LA’s Finest and Filthy Rich after both took a week off last week for the baseball. Both shows returned high, with LA’s Finest seeing an 80% increase in the audience and a 200% increase in the demo. Could this be a good sign? LA’s Finest has been canceled by Spectrum, but could FOX save it?

Filthy Rich followed with a 13% increase in the audience and a 33% increase in the demo. The actual numbers for the metrics are a little closer to what FOX is used to in the fall, especially for the demo. We’ll have to see how the show performs next week to see if there’s a chance of renewal.

ABC, CBS, and NBC had mixed results last night

ABC brought new episodes of Dancing With the Stars and Emergency Call. The latter performed well, seeing a good increase in both metrics. The whole timeslot performed well, but we’ll get to that.

Dancing With the Stars was mixed. While it was up 11% in the demo, it was down 2.5% in the total audience. It didn’t win the night, either. That honor went to The Voice.

NBC debuted a new season of the singing competition. It did debut down compared to the previous season premiere, but that’s to be expected. The dips weren’t too concerning, especially since the 7.96 million viewers and the 1.2 demo rating were the best of the night. The series is going nowhere.

The figures helped with Weakest Link, which has moved to the 10/9c slot. It was steady in the total audience and up 33% in the demo, winning the timeslot in both.

CBS had the worst night of the lot. Big Brother was down in both metrics compared to the previous Monday night episode. This probably isn’t much to worry about overall. I’m sure there will be another season of Big Brother, but CBS needs to consider if the game needs to change slightly.

One Day at a Time saw a 5% and 33% drop in the audience and demo respectively. The audience dropped further in the second half-hour slot. This isn’t a good sign for the comedy, but we do have to remember that it’s already aired on PopTV. This is pandemic-proof programming, but could indicate that not enough people are tuning in for the series.

Finally, CBS finished with Manhunt: Deadly Games. While the demo was steady and the audience was up by 3%, the figures are still on the low side. They’re running a little too close to The CW’s metrics (and remember, The CW gets away with lower ratings because CBS is the parent company).
