American Idol 2023: Who made the Top 12 and who went home?

Any point of American Idol can be nerve-wracking. Whether that’s facing judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan the first time during the auditions, in Hollywood Week, awaiting whether you make it into the Top 26, or during the live shows. The stakes are always high! Now, we’ve reached the point in the competition where the Top 20 becomes the Top 12.
10 contestants moved forward onto the next round based on our votes at home, while the other two to round out the group were chosen by the judges. That means tonight, April 24, 2023, we said goodbye to a total of eight hopefuls.
So who earned a spot in the Top 12? Whose journey on the ABC series had to come to an end? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Though last night’s episode was a long one, coming in at three hours, this evening’s show was the typical two hours we’re used to seeing on American Idol. A pesky fly might have been getting in some of the contestants’ way (if you know, you know), but all of them rocked their performances anyway! Here is this season’s Top 12:

Next week will see another two-night premiere on Sunday and Monday. The April 30 episode, “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night” sees the return of fan-favorite and season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert make his way back to the singing competition series to mentor the contestants as we find out who makes it into the Top 10. Then the following night on May 1, “Judge’s Song Contest,” the panel chooses songs for the contestants as the Top 7 is revealed.
