Get ready for a huge ABC crossover as a 911 star will appear on Doctor Odyssey! Get the details here!

Crossovers between ABC shows aren’t commonplace but do happen. Usually, it was Grey’s Anatomy crossing over with its spinoff Station 19. While there have been hopes for 911 doing a crossover with a show like, say, The Rookie, the different production companies involved make it harder. Still, we do get bits like characters from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia showing up on Abbott Elementary.

911 will crossover with Doctor Odyssey?

However, TV Insider is confirming there is a fun crossover coming to its Thursday lineup as the Thursday, March 20 episode of Doctor Odyssey will guest-star Angela Bassett as her 911 character Athena Grant who boards the cruise ship but not for a vacation.

Per the logline description, “Unexpected guest Athena Grant suspects two passengers are targeting the ship’s vault. Enlisting Max’s [Joshua Jackson] help, Athena raises the stakes in a dangerous game where not everyone will end up with a winning hand.”

For 911 fans, it may be a surprise Athena would go anywhere near a cruise ship again. The show’s seventh season (which was also his debut on ABC) opened with a three-part tale where Athena and her husband Bobby (Peter Krause) took a cruise only to end up hijacked by pirates and the boat sinking.

Given that, the idea of Athena going on a ship seems off and no doubt some reference to her earlier adventure. However, her arrival also has questions regarding Doctor Odyssey’s reality.

What does Athena mean for the Doctor Odyssey “dream theory”?

Since Doctor Odyssey began, a major fan theory has grown that this entire show is a strange dream. It’s established that Max was “patient zero” for the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S. and was near death.

Fans have clung to the idea that this series is Max in a coma and dreaming of this. There’s also the idea the ship is somehow between life and death and “ferrying” souls over.

Athena’s appearance would indicate that the dream theory is bunk and the show is set in reality. Then again, there’s a possibility Max somehow met Athena before and is integrating her into his dream. If 911 fails to mention Athena’s new ship journey, that can add to it.

Either way, this is notable as a rare ABC drama crossover and Bassett’s great energy should be a new spark to Doctor Odyssey. It’s notable this comes on the heels of the announcement of a new 911 spinoff set in Nashville as the franchise is expanding in ways fans didn’t expect.

911 and Doctor Odyssey return on Thursday, March 6 on ABC.
