Milo Ventimiglia dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to chat about all things This Is Us Season 2 and graciously ruled out more theories about Jack’s death.

More from This Is Us

How did Jack Pearson die on This Is Us? It’s the question every fan of the NBC breakout hit can’t stop pondering and the question Milo Ventimiglia can’t seem to escape. In every interview since Jack’s death was revealed in the fifth episode of Season 1, Ventimiglia has fielded rumors and theories and questions ad nauseam. Finally, he’s delivering the spoilers we need to solve this mystery for ourselves.

As if Milo Ventimiglia and Justin Hartley debunking every fan theory once and for all wasn’t enough, the man otherwise known as Jack Pearson dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday night to dispel any rumors surrounding the death of his beloved character. Having already squashed the truly bonkers theories that Jack could be an alien or faked his death, Ventimiglia offered up another list of possible causes of death that definitely did not take out Papa Pearson. Obviously, we’re all on the edges of our seats waiting for confirmation that Bieber fever, gluten, or a peanut butter and banana sandwich contributed to Jack’s demise, but that’s not quite the case.

Milo Ventimiglia joked to Jimmy Kimmel that Jack Pearson wasn’t a victim of becoming too emotionally invested in a Justin Bieber concert, consuming too much gluten, or eating a peanut butter and banana sandwich on the toilet like Elvis. It’s also worth noting that Jack didn’t die via putting his head in the microwave on the popcorn setting, so go ahead and remove that from your list of guesses.

Unfortunately, Ventimiglia couldn’t share any actual information about the big reveal, but his faux theories got our wheels spinning regardless. Making light of the most monumental piece of the This Is Us puzzle reads slightly morbid, but it could also signal that Jack’s cause of death isn’t as tragic or possibly heroic as fans have been assuming. Considering Justin Hartley said he hasn’t heard one correct theory, the tragic event might shock in the other direction.

Not that anyone had “death by Bieber fever” in their This Is Us pool, but that would have been one time-traveling plot twist fans could have never anticipated. Still, it’s worth reiterating Milo Ventimiglia’s continued counterpoint to the cause of death chatter. Focusing on how Jack lived will be much more rewarding, and who knows, it just might ultimately inform what led to the end of his life.

Elsewhere in his conversation with Jimmy Kimmel, Milo Ventimiglia shared the charming story of learning he was nominated for an Emmy, including his parents’ adorable reactions. He also helped Kimmel create some mock-up This Is Us merchandise you’ll definitely want to start saving your money to purchase.
