The cast and creator of This Is Us hopped on an Emmys For Your Consideration panel and spilled secrets about Season 2. Here’s five things we learned!

More from This Is Us

Are you ready for more Season 2 spoilers directly from the cast and creator of This Is Us? You have to hand it to this hardworking crew. While filming the tear-inducing scenes of tomorrow, they have also been much more generous than they ought to be with behind the scenes details and teases of what the new season holds for the Pearson clan. It’s like we’re practically on set with them!

Well, the talented team behind the season’s most anticipated returning drama series stayed true to their generosity when they hit the stage of Deadline Hollywood’s Emmys For Your Consideration panel. As they chatted about their Emmy-nominated performances in This Is Us and made their deserved case to take home the statues, the cast and Dan Fogelman also weaved in some exclusive tidbits about Season 2. Are Kate and Toby getting married? What does Beth do for a living? Will Jack and Rebecca make up after their big fight? Whatever happened to Kevin’s painting? Find out these answers and even more in the five major things we learned from Deadline Hollywood’s This Is Us FYC panel!

1. Kate and Toby might be getting married in Season 2.

Will wedding bells be ringing for Kate and Toby in This Is Us Season 2? According to Dan Fogelman, the season doesn’t “open with a wedding,” but the big day remains in the works. In the meantime, Kate will be busy getting her singing on. Chrissy Metz teases that her character undergoes a “growth of confidence,” and there could even be a duet happening with Mandy Moore.

2. Jack and Rebecca will be fine.

Relax, calm down, surrender your tissue boxes and pitchforks. After that massive blowup fight between Jack and Rebecca in the season finale, Fogelman previews that it wouldn’t erupt or implode their “longstanding relationship.” But don’t expect their issues to be resolved in an instant. We’ll make it through Jack and Rebecca’s rough patch as long as it may last.

3. We’ll learn William and Jessie’s backstory.

One of the natural questions surrounding This Is Us going into Season 2 was inevitably, “How will William organically fit into the story?” Here’s our answer. Since he can’t be a ghost in all of his scenes moving forward, the series will rewind to his backstory in flashbacks. First up, we’ll gain insight into the beginnings of his relationship with Jessie (Denis O’Hare).

4. Beth goes back to work.

This Is Us left Beth and Randall at an interesting turning point in the first season finale. Following the death of William, Randall quits his job and approaches Beth with the idea of adopting a child. Well, as Beth heads back to the office as an urban planner, Randall stays home with the girls. Even though the two will go about adoption in a “complicated” manner, Fogelman offers this much-needed promise: Though they may be tested, Beth and Randall will never separate. Talk about a sigh of relief.

5. Kevin’s painting resides somewhere special.

Of course, one of the earliest scenes that caused a fandom-wide meltdown was Kevin’s painting monologue, which deepened Kevin as a character and solidified the beautiful mission statement of the series. But what happened to Kevin’s Jackson Pollack-inspired painting? The original piece, created by the This Is Us art department, hangs in the home of series creator Dan Fogelman. Honestly, we don’t know how he can look at it every day without crying.
