With the diminishing number of angels, Heaven is losing power. However, Supernatural fans have spotted a major plothole with this storyline.

In Supernatural Season 13, Episode 19, Naomi explained the consequences of the limited number of angels. With just nine in Heaven and 2-3 on Earth, Heaven is crumbling. It turns out that angels are needed to power Heaven.

Instantly, Supernatural fans took to Twitter to point out a major flaw in the idea that angels are batteries. Back in Season 6, Castiel needed souls to fight against Raphael. It turned out that human souls were the things that powered up places. So, should it be the case that human souls would be needed to power Heaven and not angels?

After all, cast your mind back to Supernatural Season 9. Angels were cast out of Heaven, yet the souls managed to stay up there. Metatron didn’t damage Heaven.

Of course, the way around this argument is that the angels were cast out but they weren’t killed. Yet, Naomi has said that Gabriel needs to be in Heaven to power it. That must mean that angels need to be in Heaven to keep it running, so when all the angels were kicked out of Heaven, the place should have crumbled. Thinking about it can make your head hurt, but it’s worth it to figure out if this is a Supernatural plothole.

One fan did question whether angels are needed to help the souls keep Heaven running, almost like the connectors between battery and Heaven. However, again, when all the angels were kicked out of Heaven by Metatron, this should have been a problem!

There have been problems with the writing recently and part of that may be the fact that there are a lot of writers who weren’t around for the earlier seasons. Have they even watched the earlier seasons? However, there should be no excuse for the likes of Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb forgetting the vital piece of information that souls are the batteries that run Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory.

One argument for this plothole is that it’s not a plothole at all. Is this a sign that the angels are actually lying? It wouldn’t be the first time, especially when it comes to Naomi against Castiel.
