CBS has renewed its Thursday night comedy, Young Sheldon. How many extra seasons has it landed?

Young Sheldon has officially been renewed by CBS. With the end of The Big Bang Theory coming up, fans can still expect more of Sheldon Cooper and it’s not just for one more season.

The network opted for a two-season renewal order. That’s right! We’re getting Young Sheldon Seasons 3 and 4, so it will be on the air until at least 2021.

More from CBS

This two-season renewal comes off the back of Mom being picked up for two more seasons. Two staple parts of the CBS comedy lineup, it’s not surprising that the network is opting for these double renewals. It’s an excellent thing for the writer’s rooms of both shows, as this allows storylines to breathe a little.

Choosing to renew Young Sheldon isn’t all that surprising. This is a comedy that has people tuning in religiously for. Weekly ratings are extremely good, making it the third most popular show on the network behind The Big Bang Theory and NCIS in terms of total audience and is second most popular behind its parent show in terms of the demo, according to TV Series Finale. With The Big Bang Theory coming to an end, CBS will want to make sure a strong comedy continues.

All eyes will now be on when the show will air. Right now, it takes up the second comedy slot of Thursday nights. With its parent show ending at the end of this season, the 8 p.m. timeslot will be open. Will Young Sheldon take up that half-hour? We’ll have to wait until May 2019 to find out.

Out of the fall comedies, only Murphy Brown and Happy Together are waiting for renewal or (the most likely) cancellation decisions. Man with a PlanFam, and Life In Pieces (still to premiere its fourth season) are still waiting for decisions from the midseason lineup.
