The Walking Dead’s second spinoff series: Everything we know so far
By Sandy C.
The crew behind The Walking Dead is hard at work on the AMC’s hit show’s second spinoff. Here’s everything we know about it so far.
Despite major players stepping away from The Walking Dead (and more to come), the world of the undead at AMC only keeps getting bigger. Not only are multiple AMC movies featuring Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes on the way, but so is a third series. Who will it star and how close in both distance and connection will it be from the original show? Here’s everything we know so far.
It all began with Robert Kirkman’s books that skyrocketed to fame when AMC picked them up. The world fell in love with The Walking Dead and the unpredictability of the events and characters.
Fans feared character deaths as killing off key characters became a habit. “No one is safe” was associated with the series, but we still never imagined The Walking Dead would kill Carl (Chandler Riggs), for example. And though many would argue the quality of the series went down after Carl’s departure (then Rick’s, then Maggie’s, soon Michonne’s), the fact is that ratings also decreased.

On the plus side, at least for AMC and The Walking Dead, the series has (or had) such a massive fan base, that even after losing a few million viewers, it is still the most-watched show on television. Do you still watch the episodes live or do you catch up later in the week?
With the success of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, why not put together a third series? Here’s everything we know about the upcoming third The Walking Dead series so far…
Title: The title of the upcoming show has not been released.
Premise: All we know so far is that the series will follow two young female protagonists. In a statement when plans about the show were initially announced, AMC said it would “focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it.”
Interesting! To me, this sounds like a teen drama taking place in the apocalypse. We’ve seen the characters adapting to living in the world of the undead, but what about those who have already accepted this is life now?
"The statement continues: “Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”"
Cast: The latest to join is Nico Tortorella, Deadline broke the news. The actor (fans may recognize him from Younger) is taking on a main role as Felix, which is described by the source’s report as “an honorable man of his world who isn’t afraid to fight for others’ safety and acceptance.”
Tortorella joins Annet Mahendru, Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, and Hal Cumpston.
Matt Negrete, who writes and serves as a producer for Fear and TWD, will be the showrunner.
Series premiere: Production is happening now with plans of launching the series sometime in 2020.
Are you looking forward to another series that’ll further explore the world of the undead? How do you think this upcoming drama will differ from Fear TWD and The Walking Dead?
