Last week, I looked at the best character moments from Supernatural Season 14. This week, I’m looking at the best actor moments, starting with Jensen Ackles.

During last week, I started a look back at Supernatural Season 14, preparing for a look forward for the final season. It all started with best character moments and now I’m moving onto the best actor moments.

When looking at the character moments, I thought of many scenes that were beautifully acted by Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha, Collins, and Alexander Calvert. However, they weren’t really the best character moments, so to speak. They were moments where the actors’ abilities stood out more. That’s what this week is all about.

Since I started with Dean’s moments last week, I’ll start with Jensen Ackles’ moments this week. Here are the five best moments from Supernatural Season 14.

5. Playing Michael!Dean

I would have happily seen Jensen Ackles play Michael!Dean for a little bit longer, and this was because of his acting. You could tell that this was someone entirely different. It no longer felt like Dean, and it wasn’t just the Peaky Blinders clothes.

Ackles changed his stance, the glint in his eyes, and his voice slightly. He clearly took some pointers from Christian Keyes’ portrayal but added his own slight flare, bringing us the archangel we would all fear.

4. Showing the conflict about Jack

More from Supernatural

I know the Supernatural Season 14 finale isn’t a favorite for many, especially when it comes to Dean’s decision to kill Jack. However, it has a standout moment for Jensen Ackles.

When Dean is holding the gun to Jack’s head, you can see the conflict. Ackles shows us the fear, the hate, the panic, and the love all in one go. He’s scared of what Jack could become and there’s hatred for the death of his mother, but at the same time, there’s this love that means he just can’t go through with it. Up to this point, he was running on adrenaline and now he was able to step back and really think about it.

3. The goodbye tour

When Dean headed off on a trip to see Donna and the Mary, you knew he was up to something. We got a whole episode of his Goodbye Tour. The whole episode was excellent, but there’s one moment that stands out for me when it comes to Jensen Ackles.

His emotion in the confession to Sam was beautiful. He made it clear that he didn’t exactly want to lie to Sam, but Dean knew that Sam could talk him out of what he felt he needed to do. And that’s exactly what happened. Jensen Ackles gave us everything in that one scene.

2. Losing Jack

Jensen Ackles put so much heart into “Byzantium.” As he got ready to say goodbye to Jack, as Dean, he walked out of the room. Dean couldn’t bear to see a boy he viewed as a son die. It wasn’t fair on Jack to do that, but grief and sadness don’t always make us think right.

Ackles gave us everything in that seen with Misha Collins. When the sneak peek was released ahead of the episode, I knew this was going to be a difficult episode to watch. I had the tissues ready, and Ackles killed it in this scene.

1. The panic after Michael left Dean’s mind

The biggest moment from the season that stands out for me is when Michael left Dean’s mind. It’s after Dean is knocked out in “Ouroboros,” meaning that Dean gives up the control over locking Michael in the cage.

Jensen Ackles gave one hell of a performance in this moment. You could feel the fear and the panic coming off him. As he screamed about “him” being gone, chills went up my spine. We knew exactly who he was talking about without even seeing Ackles on the screen.
