This Is Us star Justin Hartley reveals when Kevin will be engaged

Justin Hartley recently revealed that Kevin Pearson will be engaged by the This Is Us Season 4 finale. Here’s my prediction about who he’s engaged to.

While speaking to Us Weekly at SCAD aTVFest, This Is Us star Justin Hartley revealed that his character Kevin Pearson will be engaged by the Season 4 finale.

Ever since the flash-forward in the Season 3 finale where we were introduced to Kevin’s preteen son, fans have been left to speculate who the fiancée and mother of Kevin’s child is. Two weeks out from the finale, I’m ready to predict who that somebody is!

However, let’s first review the current contenders:

Sophie: Kevin and Sophie have a long and storied history. Despite the pair’s clear love for one another, something has always gotten in their way, e.g., immaturity, addiction. After reuniting once again at Sophie’s mom’s funeral, the pair share a nice and quiet afternoon, which included watching the ending of “Good Will Hunting”, a movie that the pair had gone to see in their youth but hadn’t seen the ending of due to a projector failure.

While both vowed to never watch the ending for fear of spoiling and ending a great story, they ultimately decided all endings must come eventually. Both Kevin and Sophie have grown but in different directions. I believe that both know that to move on, they must look forward, not backward, which is why I don’t believe Sophie is Kevin’s fiancée.

Cassidy: We first met Cassidy in the season premiere entitled “Strangers.” When we met her, she was a Marine veteran struggling with PTSD and recently separated from her husband. Cassidy, Kevin, and Nicky quickly became friends, and although she and Kevin slept together in Season 4, Episode 6, they parted ways as Kevin encouraged her to repair her marriage.

Although Cassidy would be a step forward for Kevin, I think the two of them still have some growing to do, and I fear that they’d grow to be codependent on one another despite Cassidy’s distant nature. Considering that Kevin already tends to try to “fix” people, I don’t believe that Kevin and Cassidy are a pair that could work in the long-run. If anything, I think that Cassidy’s possible return in the season finale, might be an opportunity for Kevin to realize that he’s already headed down a certain path.

Madison: Although Kevin and Madison had only spoken briefly before the moment that led to them sleeping together at the end of Season 4, Episode 12, Madison was quick to make it clear to Kate in Episode 15 that she didn’t regret sleeping with Kevin. As Madison told her:

"“It was nice to be with someone who actually knew something about me. […] What you and Toby have, what I dream of finding, is that intimacy. It’s letting people see the worst part of you without…being scared.”"

Both Kevin and Madison have had their share of struggles, Kevin with addiction and Madison with bulimia; however, they both currently seem to be in a good place. They’re both looking for love and willing and ready to give it, which I think makes Madison the most likely candidate to be Kevin’s fiancée.
