If there’s one contestant on American Idol this year who knows how to put on a performance, that’s definitely Nutsa Buzaladze! The 25-year-old came in with so much energy in her audition and has continued to bring it every week since. Though have you wondered where the contestant is from?

She began her Idol journey when she auditioned in Las Vegas. The hopeful began with “Lady Marmalade” by LaBelle, proving her deep and soulful voice. But judge Katy Perry also wanted to hear something a bit more stripped down and less theatrical. So that came in the form of her second audition song, “Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston.

It’s of course during the auditions of the ABC series where we learn all about the contestants. So where is Nutsa from? We’ve go the answer for you below!

Where is American Idol’s Nutsa from?

The singing powerhouse is from the Republic of Georgia, a country at the intersection of Europe and Asia. Though it is considered to be a European country. In specific, Nutsa is from the capital of Georgia – Tbilisi. Georgian is the native and main language spoken in the country.

And though she’s from Georgia, Nutsa is currently living in Dubai! She hopped onto a 17-hour flight from the Middle Eastern city to make her audition on American Idol. Since then, we’ve seen her in both episodes of Hollywood Week.

In “Hollywood Week Part #1,” she sang “I Surrender” by Celine Dion and once again impressed the judges. But in “Hollywood Week Part #2,” some stressors came up while rehearsing for the duets. She and her partner Carina DeAngelo clashed as DeAngelo wanted to stay up and rehearse for “I Put a Spell on You,” while Nutsa went to sleep. Though she came down to practice with her partner eventually, tension had already been high between the two and they gave an “underwhelming” performance, according to the judges.

Did Nutsa make it into the Top 24 on American Idol?

DeAngelo was sent home, while Nutsa continued on in the competition. Perry reminded the contestant to have “more grace.” On the April 9 episode, “Showstopper/Final Judgment Part #1” she apologized for her action. Nutsa took on the song “Proud Mary,” and boy did she deliver. With a flashy outfit, hair whips, and all! So was that performance enough to earn her a spot in the Top 24? The answer is, yes!

The judges surprised us all and put through a total of 26 contestants to round out the Top 26, including Nutsa of course! In Hawaii on April 17, 2023, she performed “Paris (Ooh La La)” in the hopes of securing our votes at home.

Did Nutsa make it into the Top 10 on American Idol?

Well she did secure our votes at home, and Nutsa was officially part of the Top 20 as revealed on the Sunday, April 23 episode. She was then saved by the judges in the Monday, April 24 episode after being in the Danger Zone, meaning she was a part of the Top 12! However as revealed on Sunday, April 30, Nutsa did not make it into the Top 10 and headed home.
