A Discovery of Witches comes to Sundance Now and Shudder in January. This is a series you need to watch and here’s why.

Already aired on Sky One in the UK and renewed for two more seasons, A Discovery of Witches is a must-watch. In the United States and Canada, the series will hit Shudder and Sundance Now in January 2019.

The series is based on the All Souls Trilogy created by Deborah Harkness. And I’ll interrupt this to say that if you haven’t read the books, do so right now, before you’ve seen the season. The stories are full of details that aren’t in the series. That’s always the case, but for once the series isn’t a disappointment from the books, but the books just have more time to delve into the details.

Now sure if this is a series for you? Here are five reasons you need to watch it as soon as it airs.

The cast is outstanding

More from Drama

A Discovery of Witches got the casting on point. Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer take on the roles of Matthew and Diana. Two characters who are worlds and centuries apart. Then there’s Valarie Pettiford, Owen Teale, Alex Kingston, and so many more.

If you love British TV shows, you’ll have seen the cast a lot. They’ve been in the likes of Doctor WhoGame of Thrones (okay, technically not British but does have a strong British cast), The CrownDownton Abbey, and all the other great dramas.

The actors bring the characters to life. For the most part, the characters are who you would picture from the books. Even when there are some slight changes necessary for time and financial constraints, the essence of the characters are there.
