American Idol season 21 has definitely been nerve-racking! We’ve been seeing fan-favorites move on in the competition, as well as saying goodbye to others. What happened to Colin Stough?

“Showstopper/Final Judgment Part #1” on April 9, 2023 featured the first batch of Idol hopefuls having to perform with a band to prove themselves to judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Perry. This was their last chance to earn a spot in the Top 24 (turned out to be the Top 26!).

Then the next night on “Showstopper/Final Judgment Part #2,” the remaining aspiring singers who hadn’t performed yet had to do so, to earn a spot in that coveted Top 24 on the ABC competition as well as continuing on to the Top 20 then the Top 12. So what happened to Stough? Has he moved on in the competition yet? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Is Colin Stough still on American Idol?

Colin Stough moved on to Hawaii, a part of the Top 24. Well actually, the judges threw a plot twist and it’s the Top 26 this season! Taking the stage in the tropical setting, he performed “Midnight Train to Memphis” in the hopes of securing our votes at home. Colin made it through to the Top 20 as determined by our votes, revealed in the Sunday, April 23 episode when the show moved back to the Hollywood stage.

He was also part of the Top 12 as revealed in the Monday, April 24 episode. After more than 22 million votes, it was revealed Colin made it into the Top 10 on the April 30 episode. That was followed by Colin making it into the Top 8! On the May 1 episode, the show surprised us yet again and instead of the Top 7, one contestant was saved from elimination. That was Oliver Steele. The 18-year old made it into the Top 5, and drumroll please… Colin is officially a part of the Top 3!

We first met the small town 18-year-old at the auditions in New Orleans. The Gattman, Mississippi native serenaded the judges with “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, earning him a spot in Hollywood. Then on the April 2, 2023 episode, Hollywood Week Part #1, he took to the stage once again. Stough sang “Stone” by Whiskey Myers.

American Idol airs new episodes Sunday and Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
