CBS schedule 2023-24: What’s new and returning?
Update: Sept. 21, 2023 – Back in May, CBS was the first network to put out their 2023-2024 schedule. They also had the most optimistic outlook for Fall TV despite the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike that had begun in the same month. Now, with the strike in its third month and the actors strike being launched as well, the network has had to revise its schedule. Here’s what we know.
What’s coming and going on CBS?
CBS cleared off its slate a bit for the new season. NCIS: Los Angeles was already ending, and the network has also canceled True Lies and East New York. Notably, SWAT was briefly canceled only for a backlash to cause CBS to renew it for a 13-episode seventh (and final) season.
In the previous schedule, all of the network’s scripted programming was expected to come back and viewers were set to be introduced to two new series as well–Elsbeth and Matlock. Elsbeth has Carrie Preston reprising her role from The Good Wife/The Good Fight as quirky attorney Elsbeth Tascioni, who now works alongside the NYPD. Matlock has Oscar-winner Kathy Bates in the titular role of a wily corporate attorney.
They’d also planned on “super-sizing” Survivor and The Amazing Race to 90-minute episodes. And, while that decision hasn’t changed, the game plan for their scripted originals has. There isn’t a single scripted series releasing new episodes in Fall 2023 on CBS, however, you can count on some of them to rerun. NCIS, FBI, Young Sheldon, Ghosts, and curated classics of Blue Bloods will re-air episodes.
These programs will be joined by a range of reality TV, game shows, competition series, Paramount+ imports and more including Big Brother, new unscripted series Buddy Games and Lotería Loca, the hit Paramount Network series Yellowstone, UK: Ghosts, SEAL Team‘s return to CBS starting with season 5, and the introduction of a new NCIS series.
Mid-season will bring Tracker, starring Justin Hartley as a freelance treasure hunter, Poppa’s House, a new comedy with Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. and the rest of CBS’ scripted programming.
